Greetings forum,

It's important that you know I'm mostly an idiot.

Now that we've got that out of the way, I've been having a problem with Virtumonde that I thought I had under control by using a combination of Spybot (which catches the threat, but doesn't eliminate it) and Windows Live One Care.

Upon Spybot start-up, it went to the recovery screen showing several of what look like bad files, including Virtumonde.

My question: do I want to "restore" the back-ups, or "purge" the back-up to best protect myself?

I'm keeping the screen up in the hopes that someone can answer quickly. Thanks in advance.

If you mean the Recovery tab under Spybot-Search&Destroy and above Immunize, that is the Quarantine area of Spybot. This is where malware is quarantined. Spybot keeps a backup of the suspect file until the user decides to remove it. I wouldn't suggest you recover them, unless you free to welcome more malware into your machine.

That should be the basic idea.
