View Full Version : Redirects and Firefox Crashes and Restarting the Computer with Windows Defender

So my previous thread got archived. Here's what I posted in it:

I forgot to mention two things:

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen TeaTimer pop up in a long time (since before the symptoms started, easily).

This all started recently after accessing some website through Google search and then having my computer freeze. After a while it told me that Spybot had prevented virtumonde from being installed. Panicking (what if it had missed a bit?!), I scanned with MalwareBytes, then Spybot, then McAffee. Nothing.

Yet I'm getting redirects random times I search for things on Google.

I can't recall Google redirecting me recently, although then again I've tried to stay away from it until getting help here. Also, Firefox hasn't crashed in a while.

But there have been two developments. One was McAffee continuously (meaning once I closed the window another one popped up) found and deleted something in either the Yahoo Messenger Directory, Firefox directory, or one other (I can't remember which). So I think it was just regenerating itself really quickly, maybe.

Anyway, I turned off the computer and turned it back on and the messages stopped. Later, McAffee popped up in the taskbar and said that one of its things was turned off (On-Demand Scan, maybe).

Recently, every time I turn on the computer, after some indeterminate amount of time Windows Defender will pop up and tell me that I've got Win32/AgentBypass.gen!k, and that I should remove it. I do so, and after it's done it tells me I need to restart my computer. I do, but then shortly after it boots back up, I have Win32/AgentBypass.gen!k again. It's always in the same file, uweyiwe0.dll.

Looking back through the Windows Defender history, I see a couple "Permits" that I don't remember permitting. Hm.

Anyway, here's the log:

Hi,

There's indeed bad stuff there.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer to make sure it won't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
select
Advanced Mode

On the left hand side, click on Tools
Then click on the Resident icon in the list
Uncheck
Resident TeaTimer
and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Unfortunately, I am not sure that I should risk running ComboFix on my computer, because I can't turn off McAffee. The window to do so won't open up. I have roughly eight "mcconsole.exe" processes running, but none of them are actually physically doing anything. This is a recent thing, too. I was able to open the VirusScan Console fairly recently.

So are there any alternative options?

Hi

It's possible that infection prevents you from opening McAfee control application. Let ComboFix run without disabling McAfee.

It's not going to mess up my computer? Because it keeps saying it will.

Also, it says it's not the newest edition of ComboFix, and asks if I'd like to download the newest one.

Hi

It doesn't say that it will mess up the system but warns that it may happen. It's up to you if you want to try cleaning.

If you decide to run, please let it get the latest version.

I don't mean to be so whiny about this--I just want to make sure my computer comes through this okay--but is there maybe an alternative method that doesn't require me running it after shutting down my virus protection programs?

Possible solution: I have to download a different virus software for work and it's going to automatically uninstall McAffee. This software should be easier for me to actually turn off, I hope, but would it be bad to install it while I'm still trying to sort this thing out?

Hi

If you're afraid to execute ComboFix while McAfee is running then you may run it in safe mode (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm#02).

Stratusfeare
2009-05-29, 17:39
All right, when I run it in safe mode it gives me the choice to sign in as myself or as the administrator account. I usually use the "myself" user and the computer starts up with that profile--starting up normally and using task manager to switch users doesn't show the administrator profile--so that's the account that has ComboFix on it. Should I run combofix in safe mode as my regular account, or as the administrator account?

Does that make sense?

Blade81

Use your regular account :)

I will upload the log shortly; my computer is messing up the copy/paste function (which I think is just a random glitch, not spyware).

Hi

If you can't copy-paste the log please try to attach the log as a file to your reply.

I've been really busy lately, but I'm still interested, obviously, in fixing my computer. I just haven't had time to sit down and actually get the logs posted. Please don't move this to the archive yet; I will have the logs up tomorrow.

McAffee ended up just being a pain, even in safe mode, so I deleted it.

Hi again,

Generate an Uninstall List

* Open HijackThis
* Click on Open Misc Tools Section
* Click on Open Uninstall Manager
* Click on Save list
* Save it to your Desktop
* Post it on your next reply.

Start hjt, do a system scan, check (if found):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

Close browsers and fix checked.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Driver::
Hebaaisxswi

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=-
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Monitoring\SymantecFirewall]
"DisableMonitoring"=-

Save this as
CFScript

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

If you use Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please run an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner) as instructed in the screenshot here (http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/Bleeping/KAS/KAS9.gif).

Post back its report, a fresh hjt log and above mentioned ComboFix resultant log.

Sorry it's taking so long; my computer wasn't installing a new antivirus for me until just recently. I'll do the combofix thing shortly.
