My fiance's laptop is royally screwed up. It had vundo about a year ago and has been fine up until a few weeks ago. All of a sudden her computer has been incredibly sluggish and won't even open up many programs. I tried to open Spybot which is probably an older version but it wont run unless i copy/paste the whole folder and rename it to something like adcsaf.exe. It picked up a few things (not vundo) but i cleaned it hoping i could get access to the internet. I can't seem to install S&D 1.6.0 without an internet connection.

heres the hjt log (v2.0.2)

Hi

You'll need another system with internet access to do following.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Hi

I gave following warning:

Make sure you download suitable version for the system (home or professional edition).
But still in log it reads like this: WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Home-BootDisk-ENU.exe while your XP is professional edition.

Wrong recovery console must be removed and replaced with one for professional version.

To delete the Recovery Console:

1. Restart your computer, click Start, click My Computer, and then double-click the hard disk where you installed the Recovery Console.
2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
3. Click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
4. At the root folder, delete the Cmdcons folder and the Cmldr file. If you get an error that one of these is in use then go on with the instructions.
5. At the root folder, right-click the Boot.ini file, and then click Properties.
6. Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.

Warning: Modifying the Boot.ini file incorrectly may prevent your computer from restarting. Make sure that you delete only the entry for the Recovery Console. Also, change the attribute for the Boot.ini file back to a read-only state after you finish this procedure. Open the Boot.ini file in Microsoft Windows Notepad, and remove the entry for the Recovery Console. It looks similar to this:
C:\cmdcons\bootsect.dat="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
7. Save the file and close it.

After that drag 'n' drop recovery console for pro edition on ComboFix. Post back its report & a fresh hjt log.

Hi again,

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire

I'd like you to read this thread (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282).

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

After that:

Start hjt, do a system scan, check (if found):
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{04B34C31-AB52-41C4-B69F-4EDC6D1ECBFA}: NameServer = 85.255.0.0,85.255.0.0
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{787C01C4-0D4F-47B7-9680-D133E168791C}: NameServer = 85.255.0.0,85.255.0.0
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{04B34C31-AB52-41C4-B69F-4EDC6D1ECBFA}: NameServer = 85.255.0.0,85.255.0.0
O17 - HKLM\System\CS4\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.0.0,85.255.0.0
O17 - HKLM\System\CS4\Services\Tcpip\..\{04B34C31-AB52-41C4-B69F-4EDC6D1ECBFA}: NameServer = 85.255.0.0,85.255.0.0

Close browsers and fix checked.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
c:\program files\Movie Maker\rtenenuca.html

Folder::
c:\Program Files\LimeWire

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\internet explorer\desktop\components\0]

[HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"c:\\Program Files\\LimeWire\\LimeWire.exe"=-

Save this as
CFScript

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Close all browser windows and refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.
