Last week I went to a site and avast detected some bad stuff, I hit delete on Avast and closed my browser but something got on my PC. I ran a virus scan with avast and it found a virus in my memory and asked to run on reboot. On reboot, it cleared the viruses but I noticed the resident scanner for avast was disabled and I couldn't enable it again and when I tried to open IE or Firefox, it would not connect. So I ran Spybot and it found 4 infect Hupigon13 and 11 infected Win32. something. I also ran Malwarebyte's Anti Malware and it found 93 infections. The log is posted below.

Also, when I ran Spybot, it said the 11 infections Win32 something couldn't be deleted so I had to run Spybot in reboot, which I did. But on Reboot, Malwarebytes' and Spybot still came up with the same infections, they weren't permanently deleted. I ran Avast again and it found no viruses. I also have all three programs up to date with their updates.

On Sunday, my PC automatically downloaded window's updates and installed them. When I came back home Monday, I rebooted my PC, and now avast resident scanner is enabled again. I scanned avast and no viruses were found. I scanned Spybot and it found only a cookie for doubleclick.net, no more hupigon13. I scanned Malwarebytes' and got the following log.

I was confused about what is happening so I shut down the comp and rebooted again, wondering if the 93 infections on Malwarebytes' and the 15 infections on spybot would show up. Spybot was clean again today and so was Malwarebytes'.

Am I clean or in trouble?

You must have read and followed the "Before you Post" instructions.

I did some random checking of the stuff MBAM removed, such as:
NAVWNT.EXE <<< while Norton/Symantec also uses that file, since you are not using that program, it is probably this:

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing.

McAfee and Avast4 <<< uninstall all but one antivirus program.

If you wish to continue, do not expect fast or easy, we will start like this.

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Uninstall all but one antivirus programs.

3) If you still have MBAM, you may use it but you must update the program and run it as instructed.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

4) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.

I'm at work and won't be home for another 8-9 hours but I do have a question. I have pictures of my 1 year old on my desktop PC (the one that's infected). How much risk is there in transferring those pics to a thumb drive and then saving them to my new laptop. My laptop came with a subscription to Mcafee so that's what I'm using on the laptop. If I scan the thumb drive with Mcafee and it's clean, can I assume it's clean?

How about if I wanted to transfer some songs I've downloaded through the years (my desktop PC is 6 years old) using the same method as above?

Also, my laptop and desktop are connected to the same router, although I've never networked them together or anything (sharing desktops, file transfers, etc), can viruses spread through the router as well even though Mcafee hasn't detected anything on the laptop?

Sorry for the newb questions, but I'm not afraid to admit I'm a newb.

You should be able to scan individual files with McAfee. Once you have moved what you want to the thumb drive, you can also scan the drive using updated MBAM. You may want to wait to see how it goes, we may be able to remove the infections without moving files from the computer?

If computers are networked, many viruses can infect shared systems via the network. I can not say if this has happened, but suggest you remove the infected computer from the network and scan the laptop with updated McAfee and MBAM to make sure it is clean. In this thread I can only deal with one computer at a time.

It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Deleted all the old stuff you told me.

Some issues. ComboFix reverted my desktop background to an older one I used a while back. Not a big deal but just letting you know. Also, after Combofix ran, I couldn't connect to the internet at all. My router wouldn't transfer data. Even on my laptop, I couldn't find my network. I had to plug my Desktop directly into the cable modem to connect.

Thanks for the feedback, let me know if anything is not normal when we remove combofix. Did you see this:

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

My router wouldn't transfer data. Even on my laptop, I couldn't find my network. I had to plug my Desktop directly into the cable modem to connect.
You might need to reset the router, unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. You might want to read this information also:

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. (wait until you finish to post the logs)

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Comp seems fine. Do the logs say I'm clean?

Are you worried about the file that I couldn't scan using that online virus scanner because I couldn't find it even after unhiding it?

You had a nasty infection, but as far as I can see, we were able to remove it. Keep an eye open for any problems as we wrap up.

No...you say it not there and I will take your word for it. It was in a TEMP folder so ATF-Cleaner likely removed it for us.

Remove combofix from the computer like this:

Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean the System Restore files like this:

Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot

Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Update MBAM and scan to be sure we missed none of the junk, there is no need to post a clean scan result.
(MBAM is yours to keep if you wish, keep it updated and run it once a month or so)

Update Avast4 and scan the system, to be sure it is running right and scanning clean.

I did the system restore thing and uninstalled combofix and reset Tea Timer, Avast resident scanner, and Online-Armor firewall so that all are working on startup.

I have not scanned using MBAM, Spybot, or Avast yet but I did do a quick HJT scan right when I rebooted just to see what it says. A couple of those items you had me click on HJT and "Fix" are back.

ATF-Cleaner: the best small free cleaner available online, you can keep it or delete it as you wish.

The memory in TeaTimer is likely returning leftover junk to the log, please follow these directions.

Download TeaTimerWipe.bat to the Desktop

Double click TeaTimerWipe.bat then read and follow the prompts carefully.
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer from restoring them upon reactivation).

Then check to make sure they are gone from the log:

cleared teatimer. Fixed those 6 items in HJK. Did the system restore off then on. Rebooted twice.

HJT log seems to be clear now so clearing teatimer looks like it worked. I did scan with my system with MBAM and avast last night and both were clean.
