I'd like to make sure my laptop is clean, since I got a notification recently that my computer may be infected. I really haven't noticed anything different while using my laptop but I'd rather be safe than sorry and make sure there is nothing wrong.

Hi :)

What program showed the warning and can you remember what was the exact message?

There're signs of multiple antivirus programs there. What antivirus program are you using?


Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.



Read the requirements and privacy statement then click on the Accept button.



The program will launch and start to download the latest definition files.



You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run



Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives



Click on My Computer under Scan.



Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.



Click on Save Report As....



Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.



Save this report to a convenient place.



Copy and paste that information & a fresh hjt log into your topic.



The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. As it scans your machine very deeply it could take hours to complete, Kaspersky suggests running it during a time of low activity.

"antimalware" popup notified me that I had viruses while using Mozilla, and I should download the program, I clicked cancel but it then looked like it was downloading itself anyway? :confused: I closed Mozilla so I don't know if it actually downloaded itself on my laptop.

These were the messages I received.

I usually use all the anti-virus programs, not at the same time, but just because I'm paranoid.

I'm downloading Kaspersky right now. I'll post the reports when the program finishes running.

Hi,

I see Antivir, AVG and Norton installed there. Of those I'd keep Antivir.

Also, I forgot to ask which version of Java 6 you have installed there? Uninstall all versions lower than Java 6 Update 13.

It says Update 7, but when I go to update it says I have the latest platform, and the java website tells me I have Version 6 Update 13 already. Weird.

I deleted any java update lower than Java 6 Update 13, and I deleted AVG and Norton. Kept Antivir. Here is a new HJT log. I'm still confused about what happend. Especially since Kaspersky came up clean. :confused:

Hi,

Adobe just released an updated version of Adobe Reader. You should get version 9.1.2 thru program's internal update functionality. If not, then you may get it here (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows). Otherwise it seems you're good to go :)

Just updated Avira and scanned my laptop and came up with 4 viruses. I believe all are false positives.

Hi

To check heuristics level, start Antivir and click 'Configuration'. Place a checkmark into Expert mode -box. On treeview on the left side, check what value heuristics is set. See this (http://lh6.ggpht.com/xfuentes/SAtQjql8cKI/AAAAAAAAAJI/N95_-6jWFRE/s1600-h/image%5B19%5D.png) screenshot. Instead of using high level, heuristics should be set to 'Medium detection level'. That prevents false positive better from showing up.
