I am unable to install spybot on my computer.
XP sp3...

I down loaded spybotsd162.exe
When I launch the setup I get the following events:
1.) Select Setup Language dialog box (english-click OK)
2.) Setup dialog with red X and the following message - Access violation at address 74E39BDD. Read od address FFFFFFFF." (click OK)
3.) Error dialog" - "Error creating window." (click OK)

I am not sure if there is some infection on this machine. I had installed a Corel product trial version and it suddenly stopped working... I tried to view the Event Viewer logs and and was unable to open the properties of any log entries. I tried the repair install for the Corel, there was no error but it failed to correct the condition. Uninstall and reinstall never corrected the condition. I have totally uninstalled the product.

I don't know what to do next,... HELP??!!

Thanks,
BB

Hi BBnerd56,

:welcome: to Safer Networking Forums. :)

I am not sure if there is some infection on this machine.

Do you have Signs of Malware (http://www.virusvault.us/signs1.html) ?

Can you install Spybot in safe mode (http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml) ?

Perhaps a tip from buster will help you, more here (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=47218).

If the obove things doesn't help you... well, then I don't have an answer so far for you, but to be on the safe side, I would like you to follow these instructions (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=304562&postcount=2). When an analyst has checked your computer and everything is fine, come back. :thanks:

Well...
I'm sure what was wrong was on my end, (old, worn, hardware - like it's owner)
I know this computer has a bad sector on the hard drive and with all the behavior it exhibits I finally resorted to doing a repair install of XP.
All is well and spybot functions without flaw.
I wanted to update and close this thread.

You guys rock!!!
