Help! Strange error while scanning (in German!)

During S&D scan, and after it had found 24 hits, I get this strange popup error message and the scan stops. Downloaded all updates just before, thinking it could be a corrupt file. The last update was about 6mo. ago and it did it with that as well every time I scanned.

In the scan window:
Error During Check! Interfun [Datei c:\windows\system.ini kann wicht geifnet werden. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process]

Error message popup window:
Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 72FCB282 in Mudul 'USPI10.dll'. Lessen von Adresse 00000033

I clicked to clean the spyware and a re-scan showed the 24 gone, but the error message came up again. This is about 1/2 way through the progress bar at the bottom, so the scan didn't complete.

Please help! I think there's something drastically wrong!

The error is usually caused by using an old "advcheck.dll" program.

Go into Spybot > Help > About. Are you running Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3?

Unless you are running on a Windows 95 system, you should consider upgrading to Spybot 1.4 to fix the error.

Do not change the default installation path of:C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
Make sure that you update Sptbot-S&D 1.4 before running a scan.
Note: If you upgrade and use TeaTimer be aware of the following:
There is currently a bug in TeaTimer 1.4. Portions of TeaTimer's popup dialog overlay the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons. On my system the very top edges of the "Allow change" button (on the left) and "Deny change" button (on the right) are showing and I am still able to select the options. I also can check "Remember this decision" since it is visible. If no portion of the "Allow change" and "Deny change" buttons are showing, you can answer TeaTimer's popup dialog (English language version) by pressing "A" on your keyboard for "Allow change" or "D" for "Deny change". Note: If you close the dialog without answering "Allow change" or "Deny change" the registry change is denied.

If you can't deal with the problem that way until it is fixed, you can:

Disable TeaTimer as follows:
Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
Uncheck the following:Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) Active.

Thanks for the info. I did have Search & Destroy 1.3. I un-installed it, downloaded 1.4 and updated all options.

Ran the scan, and it completely cleaned everything! Never hung up this time.

Should the update remind users that they have an older version? This had caused me uneccessary headaches and time wasted, but the price is right, so I can't really complain.

Hello,

In the past it was not possible to upgrade to a new Spybot version via update.
But we integrated this function with our current version Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4.
So, whenever there is a new version you will get a notification when searching for new updates.
