I seem to have a very slow Download speed for the last couple of days @ 0.70/80 Mbps!! I suspect some sort of malware, but malwarebytes, Adaware, SearchBot S&D, and my AV scans are not picking anything up.They have all been Updated. It seems to be intermittent over a few days, then goes away before returning again? If i dis-connect the internet from telephone socket for a minute or two, then re-connect, i get normal speed for about 10 minutes before it slows again. I can repeat this process over and over, but this is not normal practice. What is it? Please Help!:thanks:

That's roughly my peak download speed .
Assuming this a broadband connection, do you use a modem? Wireless or wired?
What is your normal speed? And what OS do you run?

I am using windows XP SP3
I have been used to better speeds peaking at 7/8 Mb so how can you say that 0.70/80 is normal. I have been using an online 'speedtest' to determine speed.
My main problem is that when i realise that its slow. I am left hanging! something is definately not correct!!
I do not use wireless ever! It is a fixed line.
Hello vodkaphix,

drragostea did not say the speed for you was normal. :)
What is your normal speed? ;)
If i dis-connect the internet from telephone socket for a minute or two,
I do not use wireless ever! It is a fixed line.
By "fixed line" are you saying you are on dialup?

ok
apologies for misunderstanding with previous quotes.
Can we please be clear.... I have never used wireless or 'dial up'.
I am using a fixed line internet via Orange 'livebox' My system is XP sp3.
My normal speeds are 7/8 Mbps not 0.70/80
Here is a speedtest result, done just now:

And... approximately 15 minutes later the test shows this:

It will continue to be low UNTIL i reboot or dis-connect the internet connection. So i feel that there is some kind of malware/virus on my system somewhere. This is not normal! It has been like this now for 5 days and i cant find a solution.
Hello vodkaphix,
If the PC shows signs of being infected follow the instructions in this link to produce a HJT log: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
Then start your own thread in the Malware Removal Forum (http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22) where an analyst will advise you as soon as available.
