Getting Browser redirects from Google searches in both IE8 and Firefox.

Tried the easy stuff with no luck, i.e. Spybot, Malwarebytes, ATF Cleaner, etc.

I'm a first timer here, but have done my share of computer cleanup. I apologize in advance if I've violated any "before you post" rules, I read it carefully and tried my best.

Hi,

Does the redirection issue bother both IE and Firefox browsers?

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Thanks for your assistance, but the owner of this PC (my son) got antsy and decided to reinstall his OS on this machine. Unfortunately, what ever got a hold of it also wiped out the ability to access system restore points. It's only a few months old, and he created a boot sector for the OS, so it was a piece of cake to reinstall the OS, drivers and his few pieces of software.

To answer your question, in case it helps others, the redirects were occuring on both Firefox and IE-8; very similar in behaviour...You might get off with one link, but every link from either Google or Yahoo search went off to some pay-to-click goofy website on a closely related topic. What ever it was, it only affected clicking on search hyperlinks. If you right clicked on the desired link and cut/pasted it into a fresh browser address field, there was no hanky-panky. Not sure how it got thru, the machine was running AVG and firewall, etc.

Of course, it what ever hijacked his system is lurking in his files, we'll be baaaaaak. The folks in these formus that take the time to help people are truly amazing:thanks:
