View Full Version : Attempting to recover from a HUGE attack on my PC...

For a couple years, I stupidly ran my computer with no firewall (not even the windows firewall) and eventually uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus when it started blocking any internet connections. For a while, I managed to squelch any viral attacks through quickly using system restore, thinking highly of myself for this. Just last night i was blindsided by a program that removed all administrative control, blocked taskmanager and system restore, and locked my computer up about 30 seconds after startup. Using Spybot, i managed to regain control (along with administrative rights) and clean up most of the mess i made...

Currently, the only remaining symptom is my Firefox. After opening the application the first time, it runs for about 20-30 seconds before closing and displaying an error message (giving options to send a report to Mozilla, restart firefox, or exit the program) when either choosing "Restart Firefox" or closing it and opening a new one, it immediately displays the same error. I tried re-installing firefox and running it in safe mode with no result. The 1st Spybot scan removed a TON of malware, the second cleaned up the remainder from the first after a system reboot. Since then I've run Spybot 3 more times, each time it finds 2 new programs to delete. I suspect there is some of the malware remaining from before the miracle cleanup performed by Spybot.

Here's my most recent HJT log:

If it helps, I also ran HJT prior to using Spybot. I still have the first log from that, and i'll gladly post it if you believe it will assist you in knowing what you're up against.

Well. I just recently checked my email on my work-computer, and was suprised to find that my World of Warcraft account was closed. Yeah, apparently "I" created a new character on a new server, and chose to spam advertisements through the server... Please, help?
