I have a problem with SKYNET. It wouldn't let me run anything so I managed to disable it's .exe files so I could run AVG antivirus. It appears that it installed itself into AVG and about 20 files will not be removed. Here's my HJT Log:

Hello Myrkwood
Welcome to Safer Networking.
Please read Before You Post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
Right click on Combofix and rename it to Combo-fix.exe
Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.
Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.
*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Great , this is what I would like you to do, this wont fix anything but I need to see the report
If you have not done so, reboot your system and then run this program
Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

I ran it but it was after disabling something called proquota.exe so I restarted my computer and the info tab isn't opening up when it's done scanning. I woudl like to know what proquota is and why one of my svchost.exe is taking up 90% of my CPU usage. But, here's the RSIT log:

"iexplore.exe" under the System username and the New Mama username is taking up a lot of memory usage too.
Hi,
Saw this before and it was removed but this infection put it back

Got bad news for you, read this please.
You have a real nasty infection on your system. Virut/Virtob is a file infector virus with IRC bot functionality which infects all .exe and .scr files, downloads more malicious files to your system, and opens a back door that compromises your computer. In many cases the infected files cannot be deleted and anti-malware scanners cannot disinfect them properly. When disinfection is attempted, the files become corrupted and the system may become irreparable.
Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to reformat and reinstall the OS. Please read "When should I re-format? (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063)" and "Reformatting the computer or troubleshooting; which is best? (http://www.helium.com/tm/650267/determine-whether-troubleshoot-reformat)".
If your computer was used for online banking, has credit card information or other sensitive data on it, you should immediately disconnect from the Internet until your system is cleaned. All passwords should be changed immediately to include those used for banking, email, eBay and forums. You should consider them to be compromised. They should be changed by using a different computer and not the infected one. If not, an attacker may get the new passwords and transaction information. Banking and credit card institutions should be notified of the possible security breach.
Virut/Virtob is contracted and spread by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. Those who attempt to get software for free may end up with a computer system so badly damaged that recovery is not possible and a Repair Install will NOT help! Reinstalling Windows without first wiping the entire hard drive with a repartition and/or format will not remove the infection. The reinstall will only overwrite the Windows files. Any malware on the system will still be there afterwards. Starting over, reformatting the drive and performing a clean install removes everything.
I worked with a poster a few weeks ago with this and before posting for help he reformated his system and did a clean install of windows three times only to find he was infected again because after installing windows, not knowing what he had he reinstalled all his backuped programs that where infected and the process started all over again. With this virus you have to reinstall any programs you use from a clean download or a CD, if you reinstall any programs from a backup your just going to get infected all over again.
This virus has installed so much other garbage, thats most likley responsible for your high cpu usage . If you look on your RSIT log under the start up registry entries, about half of those programs are legit and half are infected.
This virus also has the ability to steal passwords and bank account numbers so at this point I would access a known clean computer , go online and change all your logins and passwords.
If you need help with a reformat and clean install of windows, let me know and I can link you to some windows support sites that can help you.

IDamn, I was afraid of that. Any links you have would help.
Myrkwood,
You can get this nasty infection by using P2P ( file Sharing Programs ) like the torrents, limewire and such. You can also get it by downloading illegal software from cracked sites. I see no evidence of this so this is just a heads up for the future.
http://forums.whatthetech.com/Microsoft_Windows_f119.html
This is the link for our sister site, like Safer, the help is free but you will need to sign up and create an account. Your going to need your windows installation CD.
http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=49928
This is the link to this thread, feel free to post it at the other site in your reply so that they can see what there up against. You can also post back in this forum with a link to the WTT thread so I can follow it and offer any advice if its needed.
Good luck,
Ken :)

Ok, thanks, Ken. I found the installation cds, I just need to find the Certificate of Authenticity. It's either on one of the cds or on the computer somewhere. Any clue where it would be on a Dell Dimension 4500?
It should be on the back or side of the case , it will be a little sticky tag saying Windows XP and should have the installation numbers on them.
If you bought and installed windows yourself than they would be one the CD package , most likely the white sleave that the cd came in

Okie dokie, I guess I'm gonna star reformatting and installing the OS and everything else. I'm following the instructions found here. (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Reformat-Install-Windows-t173729.html) Wish me luck.
Remember, your most likely going to need the set up files from the manufacturer of your system for the Video, sound and Lan. Do not use backup copies

I've still got the manufacturer discs: Operating System: Reinstalling Windows XP Home Edition; Drivers and Utilities: Dell Dimension ResourceCD for reinstalling Device Drivers and using diagnostics, Utilities, and online documentation; Drivers and Utilities: For reinstalling V.92 (Capable)/56k telephony data/fax/voice modem software for microsoft windows; Application: For installing/reinstalling roxio easy cd creator 5.2 basic; Applications: Dell tools for reinstalling dell-installed software. I have my Windstream Broadband setup cd, and I have a friend bringing me Windows Service pack 3 and AVG 8.5. In your professional opinion do you think I'm ready to go?
Looks like it. I used to build all my own systems, this was about 6 years ago, I don't do that anymore after I got involved with malware so I am a bit rusty on the procedure. If your not in a hurry, post in the forum I linked you to and let me know when you do and I will give the admin there a heads up as we are working together

I could try it but I've only got limited time on this computer cause it's my brothers grilfriend's and she's a reall jerk about it, plus I have people on World of Warcraft waiting for me to get back on lol. We got the virus on the home computer when my brother was on myspace.com and he didn't wake me up to tell me so it got too far along for me to stop it.

I reformatted the computer but I'm not sure how I get service pack and an intivirus + firewall so I can go and download the service packs and anti-viruses lol.

Good Morning,
It looks like you did everything correctly, you have the latest service packs and IE Browser, you have AVG Antivirus installed, and your HJT log looks fine.
Just add a firewall, pick one from the list, just one.
Free Firewalls
Zone Alarm (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,7228,00.asp)
Sygate Personal Firewall Free Edition (http://www.filehippo.com/download_sygate_personal_firewall/[/url])
Outpost Firewall Free (http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpostfree/index.php)
Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Standard
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Post the log along with a New HJT Log into your next reply.

I'm gonna get one of those firewalls, but when I do should I disable my Windows Firewall? Also, I hooked up my other hard drive which all it had was .mp3, .jpeg, and my world of warcraft files. None of them are .exe or .src. I'm hoping they aren't infected, and if they are I can just wipe both hard drives. I'm scanning it with MBAM right now. Once that's done I'll run that online scan.
When you install a third party firewall it will disable the windows firewall.
.mp3, .jpeg, <--These may be ok but world of warcraft could be a problem, when your all done, run the kaspersky scan I posted, if this virus got back in Kaspersky will show it

I'm about to run the Kaspersky program. Is there anyway to turn off "ctfmon.exe"? It's like some language thing but I'm not sure how to cut it off completely.
ctfmon.exe <--This is a legit windows file, leave it be

Well, I ran Kaspersky and fell asleep. Since the window was open so long it froze when I tried to see the report, but it didn't find any problems or suspicious items.
Great, looks like your good to go.
How did I get infected in the first place ?
Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10002)
Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .
Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.
Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.
IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

If I get spyware blaster and spyware guard will that interfere with AVG 8.5? I have SB S&D already and it works good.
Yes you can use them and they wont interfere with AVG, but Spyware Guard and the Teatimer in Spybot do the same thing so you dont want them both. If you keep Spybot and install SG, just disable the Teatimer in Spybot. If you like using the teatimer in spybot than don't install SG. Spyware Blaster is a nice tool, I have it on all my systems
