View Full Version : Lost update files
Where (on Win98) does Spybot S&D store update files while it's installing them?
Recently downloaded an update (from 1.5.2 to 1.6.2), which I had to abort before it had finished. It said that I could try the install again later. However, I can't find the installer file. Spybot S&D search-for-updates no longer lists that file, it thinks I have already installed it. I would like to be able to find the file on my PC, or failing that, download it again.
Hi dialup,
:welcome: to Safer Networking Forums.
I can't give you the answer where the update file is located, but I've heard from some problems according to such an upgrade.
I think it would be the best if you uninstall Spybot 1.5.2 completely (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html) from your computer.
After that, reboot your computer, delete all leavings (usually at C:\Program Files\Spybot-Search&Destroy) and then download and install Spybot 1.6.2 from here (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/ownmirrors1/index.html).
I considered re-installing, as being the simplest way round the problem, but the new version file is about 16MB. As I'm on a dial-up connection, that's not really feasible, hence my question.
Does anyone know how to persuade S&D to let me download the upgrade again, since I can't locate it on my PC?

Hello,
Maybe this helps.
Please download the installation and the update file on another computer, copy these to a CD or USB stick and then install and run it on the dial-up computer:
Installation file (http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd162.exe )
Update file (http://www.spybotupdates.com/updates/files/spybotsd_includes.exe) (run it after the installation)
Best regards
Sandra
