View Full Version : NFL.com videos vs. Spybot

I have been having issues when trying to open a video from NFL.com.
They were using Real Media but recently started using Flash 10. A google search of the problem has stated in a couple of posts that Spybot may be the problem. You Tube uses the same program for their videos and they play fine. I am using IE7 and Flash 10.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,

Have you tried to disable the Immunization and the SDHelper?
Please run Spybot-S&D and select "Spybot-S&D" --> "Immunize" in the navigation bar on the left. Please hit "Undo".
Then run Spybot - Search & Destroy and switch to the Advanced mode via the menu item Mode.
Now select 'Tools' - 'Resident' from the navigation bar on the left.
Please untick the checkbox in front of the 'SDHelper'.

I can also reproduce this problem - but the current Spybot immunisations are not responsible.
I ran some tests and excluded both the current Spybot and SpywareBlaster immunisations.

However this is almost certainly an ad-blocking issue.
In my case I tracked it down to an extra Hosts file entry I had added to block ad.doubleclick.net
There may be other advert servers required on different videos.

Non-Spybot additions to the Hosts file or other Ad-blocking security software is most likely responsible.
Some reports suggest that McAfee Ad-Blocking can cause this problem.

Hello,
Sandra I did as you suggested and still not working.
I am using Symantec Antivirus but I can't locate any ad blocking programs.
I did further research and it is also suggested to be an ad blocking issue.

Would it be safe for me to go into the hosts files or will this create major problems?
You realize how we Americans are when it comes to the NFL?......LOL

Temporarily disabling the Hosts file will test if non-Spybot entries in this file are responsible for your problem.
You will need to close and re-open IE to load the new settings.
Remember to re-enable the Hosts file when done.

However working on the Hosts file can be a pain as it is hidden in various ways to make it difficult to get to.
To avoid all the hassle of finding and unprotecting the Hosts file I use a neat little utility called HostsToggle.
It allows you to check, edit, or temporarily disable the Hosts file without any expert knowledge.

HostsToggle adds a red button to the system tray, from which you can enable/disable, check and edit your Hosts file.
