Blue screen while running spybot s&d

Hi,
I hope someone can help, when I run spybot it gets as far as scanning of download directories
and then I get the "blue screen of death" with the following errors
IROL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Also firefox is using 100% of the CPU so many things are almost at a standstill.
Initally I thought it was a problem with firefox and zone alarm. So I have removed
and reinstalled firefox (3.5) and completely removed zone alarm. I did try restore points
but without any success - windows failed to restore to them.
Unfortunatly before I thought it might be malware I ran "CC cleaner", "Toni arts registry cleaner "
"tweak now registry cleaner" and optimised with "NTREGOPT"
I have now backed up the registry with ERUNT.

thats a pretty generic error message. Probably not related to malware at all. Does it only happen when you run Spybot or at other random times?
You could try running SBSD in safe mode.
To reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart and choose the first option from the list: safe mode.
FYI: its a myth that registry cleaners, boosters, optimizers etc will enhance system performance. They dont.

Hi thanks for the info, I couldn't get on the internet at all in the end, I still think there was a virus or malware as things became progressively worse, but as I couldn't even get on the internet I decided to format the hard disks and have done so. It appears to be working ok at present, I did have a image backup although it was 5 months old (that's a lesson learnt !) and I also made a image backup before I formated the hard disks and have selectively copied parts back, so although I am out on a few programs etc that I've lost,, I'm just happy to have it working on the net again.

Again thank you for being here when needed (even if not needed this time)

PS It was just blue screening with spybot and at the same point every time.

ok. If the BSOD's are only with SBSD, then I wouldnt use SBSD. Another good anti-malware app is Malwarebytes (MBAM). The free version must be updated manually and its only a on demand scanner. The paid version has auto updates and real time protection.
