HI avast recently discovered 2 copies of win32:Rootkit-gen(RTK) on
my sytem during a boot scan made me currious if related -it deleted
1 said it could not move other but it is gone now

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.
You must have read and followed the "Before you Post" instructions.
Since TeaTimer is not disable as instructed, please read the directions again in case you missed any other important directions.
I am seeing nothing in the HJT log but much of malware (like rootkits) is hidden anymore. If you wish to contine, and I can not promise fast or easy, we will start like this.
1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)
2) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

3) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

by the way I currently have 10 instances of svchost.exe running
and don't know if it is related since have had the problem since
buying the new (reconditioned) computer but can not boot into
safe mode - have to go to last know good startup?
I backed up my registry using erunt last night
recently ran aboutbuster and kazaabegone with no luck
the rootkit was found in

it deleted the servicepack one but said it couldn't move
the sytem32 one but it isn't there when I rerun???

You cut of the header for the MBAM log, I need to see that information. Please open MBAM and click Logs at the top, double click the log and post it again like this.
Edit > Select All > copy/paste the highlited information.
Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,

Yes, please run combofix as soon as you have it. MBAM is ok, the data base was current.
You can update those programs as time permits, but it is important because of all the infected websites anymore.

i dont know if i should have but i went ahead and updated adobe flash
player and java - will have to wait on adobe reader - what about my
real player? is it something i want or need - i know nothing about it

I apreciate that information about svchost.exe and iexplore.exe. Looking at my task manager at this moment I have running
two instances of iexplore.exe running and five instances of svchost.exe. Just having multiples running does not have to mean malware, but it can and that is what we are looking for while trying to also correct non-malware related security issues at the same time. Right now BleepingComputer and several other major information websites I use, are down due to some DNS issues.

My suggestion would be to update every program Secunia PSI tell you needs it. In the case of programs you do not use, I would uninstall them in Add Remove programs. Much junk, expecially media players get installed OEM (by the manufacturer) because they make money for putting the junk on the computer. I personally remove all media players except the one I use which is Windows Media Player in my case.
The HJT log looks clean I malware but I can see Running Processes that you may not need running. See this information:

Option #3 let's you look without downloading anything. I just ran it on this computer and could see the six SVCHOST.EXE that are running were all valid.

thanks i have been having probs with ie freezing up 1 out of 3

i didnt have multiple iexplore.exe running until the other day
then i ran boot scan & found the 2 rootkits (one of which
disapeared) so it made me more suscpious
i dont know what this means or what causes it but since i
have had the computer i havent been able to boot into safe
mode - have to go with the last know good startup

My suggestion is that you click each of those links the diagnostic has provided and make the corrections they indicate. I still do not suggest you purchase anything, the suggestions can be done without buying unnecessary programs.
I can tell you from looking at the results, lack of RAM is a problem you will have until you add some. You are running the computer with 256 MB see this:

While they suggest 512 MB's of RAM, I personally do not think that is enough. I run Windows XP and I have 1.25 GB's which is five time what you have for only basic computer. See this:
