View Full Version : Trying to understand the numbers-SD Resident

To start - I have two computers - both as follows: XP Home SP3, Intel Core2 Duo @ 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, IE8, Spybot S&D 1.6.2.46. One contains many more programs/processes than the other.

I note that on both computers SD Resident reports (when I move my mouse over the notification area icon) 127390 processes blacklisted, 283740 known ratings available. These figures have remained constant so far as I have been paying attention to them (only about two months).

The 29 July update, as reported on this site tells me that there are, "Total 1414855 fingerprints in 489974 rules for 4774 products."

Hence my question: should the SD Resident figures not increase after an update?

I also use Superantispyware and Malwarebytes (both on demand) and NIS 2009. All of the preceeding as well as Spybot report no problems and I'm showing no signs of any malware/virus infections.

I just don't understand why the SD Resident figures remain constant. I do hope very much that someone is not going to tell me that I have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall. It is a pain in the behind.

Thanks in advance to whomever can clarify this for me. I did try to search the forum for an answer to this but I am somewhat inexpert at selecting search terms. Sorry, I'm a dunce.

OK, if the only solution (assuming I have a problem. Maybe SD Resident is supposed to display as it does) is to uninstall and reinstall, I'll do it. I would appreciate it if an expert were to tell me this is the only way to do it though.

By the way, I don't think it matters, but just to be clear: I made a mistake saying that both computers were identical. One is as I said, the other is the same except it's got Intel Celeron @ 1.6GHz and 1GB RAM.

Hello there.

"Total 1414855 fingerprints in 489974 rules for 4774 products."

127390 processes blacklisted, 283740 known ratings available.
Well, they're two different things in fact. The fingerprints represent Spybot Search&Destroy's database, while the processes blacklisted is TeaTimer's "database".

OK, thanks. I think I understand now.
