View Full Version : Keylogger issue

Basically a bit of background info... On Wednesday i was downloading a few new addon's for the game World of Warcraft, all was fine that day and night while i was playing the game, no issue's etc. I logged on in the Thursday morning and got a weird message saying 'This account is now attached to a Battle.net account, blah blah blah.' Basically someone had got hold of my details and messed around with my account and made it inaccessible to me. I wasn't so worried about the game being hacked as Blizzard are currently sorting that out, it is mainly the security of my Paypal account, hotmail and other personal information. Since then i have ran Spybot S&D, NoD32 checks and going to be running a AVG check (ran all of these twice, mainly for my own piece of mind :>) the first time i did it, on NoD32 it came up with 3 potentially harmful programs, 2 i checked (one was an automated downloader, and the other was a launcher for a game) however the last i couldn't trace and so removed (haven't got any info about what this was, bad move i know !), then after i found these 3 i ran the further checks, and nothing has been detected. My question is though, is it likely the Keylogger has been removed from my system, or could it still be running and not have been detected, i want to be 100% before i change all my passwords etc for payment sites incase the keylogger had been running than i first thought, which i very much doubt.
I'm probably just being paranoid about this, but want an expert's view. Any help is very much appreciated on this

Also followed the link you gave to tech-faq, they recommended downloading security task manager, which i did and a few things had flagged up that it could not trace, i will post them and hopefully you can assist me in whether they are a threat or not....

Please download only what I ask for and post only what I request.

1) "Before you Post" instructions clearly say to disable TeaTimer?

We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

2) Uninstall Security Task Manager in Add Remove programs.

3) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop
http://www.malwarebytes.org/

http://www.besttechie.net/mbam/mbam-setup.exe <<< download

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Tutorial if needed:
http://thespykiller.co.uk/index.php/topic,5946.0.html

4) Post also an uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.

and this: http://www.systemlookup.com/CLSID/29780.html

Did you install this: nProtect GameGuard Service

Uninstall list: I look for malware and security issues and will not know all of your programs, but you should.
Hackers are using out of date programs to infect folks more and more,
Here is a small free tool that lets you know when something needs an update if you are interested:
http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ While PSI runs in the System Tray for realtime notifications, I personally prefer to turn it off in MSConfig and run it from All Programs when I want to do a check.

Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX <<< check this

Foxit Toolbar <<< uninstall

Java(TM) 6 Update 13 <<< valid but there is an update

Firstly no i didn't install nProtect Gameguard service :S

I removed java and downloaded and installed the newest version, also updated all the program's that were flagged up by secunia

The ones that you told me to check and click to remove on HJT all were removed and i couldn't find the file you told me to delete (i believe that HJT did this for me)

Here is a new HJT log:

Firstly no i didn't install nProtect Gameguard service
Very like this was bundled with a game you installed (reason reading the EULA agreement is very important)
very possible this was World of Warcraft
Here is information and it may be difficult to remove, as far as I can see there is no uninstaller in Add Remove programs.

http://www.brighthub.com/video-games/pc/articles/1709.aspx
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NProtect_GameGuard

You can also ask the folks who installed the junk:
http://gameguard.nprotect.com/support.html

Besides that the HJT log looks clean of malware.

Thanks

thanks alot mate, i take it that nProtect Gameguard should be attempted to be removed, i have a feeling that is from Shotonline, an online golf game my brother got me to play, i have a feeling it is to authenticate your copy of the game and check for any tampering with the game files (to prevent any unfair advantages within the game no doubt)

Thanks for the help, very much appreciated :bigthumb:
