I have a problem with my computer. I'm unable to run any scans. I'm also unable to run HIJACK THis to post up a log. Whenever I go on google to search on something, I'm re-directed to an ad.

Can anyone please spare a solution to my problem?

I tried to rename the HJT shortcut on my desktop and I still got the same result. It won't start up.

So let's see if this runs:

Download at your desktop DDS from one of the links below:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds)

Double click the tool to run it.
A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
When the tool finish it will open 2 reports.
Copy/paste both reports back here and remove DDS from your desktop.

Download gmer.zip (http://gmer.net/gmer.zip) and save to your desktop.
alternate download site (http://hype.free.googlepages.com/gmer.zip)

Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial105.html) for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial106.html).
When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
Click on the Rootkit tab.
Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan..

That is autostart log.

Please post scan log from rootkit tab :)

JohnShooter

Whenever I run the scan under the rootkit tab, it shuts down when its a little over mid-way through the scan. When I try to run the gmer program again, it pops up and says that Windows cannot run the specified file.

Please attempt to run it in safe mode renamed next.

I did exactly like you said and the scan still shut down. This time when I clicked on the gmer (renamed) folder, I found a new program next to the gmer program. It said something like gmer.dll. When I tried to click it and open it, it warned me that it could cause harm to my system if I opened it.

Should I try running it without using safemode?

Shaba

Yes, please :)

Okay. I ran the scan again and this time it went through much better than my previous attempts. However, once the scan was completed, I couldn't copy the log because the program's main screen was too small due to it being ran in safemode.

The things that showed up on my screen went like this...

? - win32k.sys:1
? - win32k.sys:2
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Reg - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer...
Ad - It said something about being in my system restore. (showed up a dozen of times too)

I was hesitant towards running the scan in normal mode because I don't know how to "compeltely" disconnect from my internet connection.

Do you still need the complete gmer log? If so, could you please specifically walk me through the process of using gmer?

So we use this instead:

We will continue with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:
This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.
ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
If you need help to disable your protection programs see here. (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Now combofix refuses to run.

Every program that ends in .exe refuses to run.

Please try this (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exefile.htm), Method 1 and let me know if it helped.

JohnShooter
2009-08-12, 20:33
Okay I ran the program and it said that it fixed the .exe settings.

However, I still can't run any antivirus scans on my computer.

When I start combofix, it loads then it disappears.

Shaba

Please rename combofix.exe to random.com and try again.

Ensure that file extensions are visible, link (http://support.mfm.com/support/std_procedures/unhidefileextensions.html)

Wow...This is a real nasty virus I've got.

I got the same result as the previous attempts.

I did, however, managed to run a scan off my comcast.net toolbar:

It keep finding a virus named, Aspackdie 1.1.

I quarantine it and quarantine it but it keeps coming back.

Is that what's preventing the scans from running?

Shaba

That sound like generic detection due to packer.

Let's try this.

Move random.com to c: root (c:\random.com)

Restart your computer, start to tap F8 and choose safe mode with command prompt from appearing menu.

Type:

cd\ (enter)
random (enter)

If combofix now loads, please reboot back to safe mode with command prompt and post back combofix log and DDS logs.
