Hello!

Usually I get the BSOD when I wake up the machine from standby. But there have been times when I am working and I get it too. It was suggested that maybe there is a rootkit on the system somewhere.

I DO have the message that I get on the BSOD and can send it if someone needs to see it.

Here is my HJT log:

Hi,

What model is your system's motherboard?

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Hi,

What model is your system's motherboard?

The mobo is an MSI 865PE Neo2-P

After I made my original posting,
I disabled the BIOS caching and shadowing, that seems to have cured the problem. I also installed another set of drivers for the video card which is an NVIDIA GE Force 7300GT This one has been proven to be troublesome to many others so I installed an older driver and it seems OK now.

Time will tell I guess. Thank you for your attention and if I continue to be bothered with the dreaded blue screen, I'll be back with the logs you requested.

Regards,

J T

Hi,

Good to hear that resolved bsod issue.

However, there's this bad entry in your log:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinSys2] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winsys2.exe

That's why I asked for those logs to see if it was just a leftover or if some deeper cleaning is needed.
