help please....System is dead slow!!!!!!

HI,

Im new to this forum. I was googling and found lot of threads showing issues similar to what Im having now.

Two days back, all of the sudden when i restarted the system i started feeling my laptop is pretty slow. It used to boot in 15seconds. Now it takes about 3-5 mins and everything in Windows is slow. Even the song is draggin when i play it. its horrible. Mine is a new laptop. Not sure how it happened. I have updated Norton AntiVirus and Anti Spyware is also enabled. But I think its affected with virus.

nothing really in the log as far as malware goes.

most commercial computers come with alot of bloatware on them, look in add/remove programs panel and uninstall anything you done use.

you could boot to safe mode and run your AV and malware app.

to reach safe mode you would tap the f8 key during a computer restart. do this also while in safe mode (might copy/paste this to notepad and save it somewhere)

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

start>settings>Control Panel> click the Internet options icon

Next:

Click on Delete Cookies.

Click on Delete Files, Make sure Delete all offline content is checked and then click on OK


Then click on Settings, then click on View Files if there is any thing in there, delete what you can
(edit>select all--- then file>delete)

Then at the top in the address bar, at the end where it says:

\Temporary Internet Files

change it to \Temp then hit enter and delete what you can.

Go to:

Start> Run

And type this in:

C:\windows\prefetch

Once this is open Delete everything inside the folder.

reboot once, see if anything improves.
looks like your using the startup in msconfig to keep something from starting up, very useful for keeping garbage from starting up, malware can also show here, what is it that youve unchecked, just wants to make sure its not malware.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delayed response.

I did everything you told and still the condition is same. I cleared off the things which would consume memory and ran Windows Updates and Norton Antivirus updates. Everything is up-todate. Still Im facing the same issue.

The main thing i found is, the CPU Usage is always 95-100% in Task Manager. When i tried to boot in safemode, I also found the startup froze for a while in MUP.sys. after a long time, i was able to get into Windows.

I have attached the HijackThis log again. Kindly make sure there is no malware. Or is this anything to do with MUP.sys.

<in msconfig, i have disabled bunch of things like Yahoo, AOL, Google stuff...nothing strange which i dont know>

might try running system file checker for the MUP.sys (a windows file)

That didnt work. Then I Reinstalled IDE Controllers. And my notebook came to normal working speed. Everything is perfect now :bigthumb:
