View Full Version : Cannot Download Microsoft Updates

When trying to visit the Windows Update site, I get the following message: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". The same thing happens when I try to download the Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830). I also get an error when trying to update definitions in the Windows Defender program, which I assume is the same issue as I just stated. The last issue I have, which may be unrelated, is that I can't seem to get a CD to insert into my drive - it processes then pops back out. I'm not overly concerned about that at the moment though.

I have run CounterSpy and removed a few issues that it found. I also ran HijackThis before coming to this website and removed a few things to basically uninstall things such as RadialPoint (which I didn't realize was even on my system), Proventia, and Black Ice.

Also, I tried to disable the SpyBot TeaTimer, but I SpyBot does not even open in order for me to disable this.

I wanted to update what I've done. I searched and found a Trojan Removal tool (Trojan Remover) and ran it. It found an issue with "rogue DNS entries" in my NIC that were redirecting to potentially malicious addresses. It asked if I wanted to remove these and I said yes. This allowed me to then finally be able to get to the MS Windows Update site. I went there and downloaded/installed all critical updates. I also then updated Windows Defender since I was now able to and ran a complete scan. It found and removed Trojan:Win32/Alureon.BU. I then opened SpyBot, which I'm also now able to run, and disabled the TeaTimer. I think that my computer is finally clean, but just in case, I captured a new HijackThis log in case there are other issues with my system.
