View Full Version : win32.killav-kq and spy-agent.eo infection.

I have been infected three times within a week with win32.killav-kq. I have followed the instructions using Spy-bot and I believe I have removed it. I had to manually remove a few entries in the registry that Spy-bot was not able to remove.

I also was flagged by McAfee for Exploit-CVE2007-0071(Trojan) in a directory deep under an ArcSoft product when performing a Casper drive image, but the date of the file is old and I thought that may be a false warning.

For four days now, I have been getting warned that a file has been removed by McAfee that was infected with spy-agent.eo. The file is under my temporary internet files and is always named dl[1].htm. This occurs about 5 minutes after booting and using the internet and occurs with different websites. I have run a virus scan, Spybot scan, and cleared all internet cache/cookies without success. I now believe I have a more lethal malware on my system and would appreciate some help. I have read the other thread about win32.killav-kq but also note that you suggest no one uses the same solution twice without posting a fresh log. Here is my log from tonight. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi,

Are your McAfee definitions up-to-date?

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Thank you for your help!

Yes, my McAfee definitions are up to date. In fact it caught a couple of other (possibly) related issues including DOWNLOAD-BTS and DOWNLOADER-BSY. McAfee deleted \windows\system32\xwreg32.dll upon a reboot and runs clean. But since it seems to only catch some of these things only once per day, I don't know if they are really gone yet. It also goes into a script debugger frequently so I plan on uninstalling/reinstalling when my PC is stable. I didn't even realize I had multiple iexplorer processes running until I read about xwreg32.dll and checked. I now only have one iexplore running but I still see the 018 in my hijack log so McAfee only deleted the file.

Malwarebytes also found a couple of things and that log is also below. Spy-bot and Malwarebytes now come back clean. But since it appears win32.killav-kg allowed these other things in, I know I can't be clean yet. I also read where I should clear my restore files but I wanted to get that instruction from you first. Again, thank you for any help you can provide!

Hi,

Start hjt, do a system scan, check:
O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - {302e415a-cb68-4b72-a90c-e2aed2fd58a5} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xwreg32.dll

Close browsers and fix checked.

Update your Adobe Reader to 8.1.6 here (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows) or get Foxit Reader here (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm). Make sure you don't install toolbar if choose Foxit Reader! You may also check free readers introduced here (http://pdfreaders.org/).

Check here (http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) to see if your Flash is up-to-date. If not, uninstall vulnerable versions by following instructions here (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html). Fresh version can be obtained here (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).

* Go here (http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner) to run an online scanner from ESET.
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is UNchecked and the option Scan unwanted applications is checkmarked.
Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new HijackThis log & a description of any remaining problems

Attached are the logs you asked for. Hijackthis is unable to remove the 302e415a-cb68-4b72-a90c-e2aed2fd58a5 entries. But I searched through the registry and found them in about 8 places. I can manually delete them if you think I should. The ESET complaints below are for trial versions of the Nero product which I never installed. I just deleted those files. I will update adobe and IE shortly. So I think the only thing left is to get rid of the registry entries and to clear my system restore points if you think I should. Please let me know what you think, thank you.

Hi,

Let's get a list of those locations with that guid.

Please download the Registry Search tool by clicking on the
hard drive
icon halfway down this page:
http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/
Save it to the desktop and run it. If you get an alert from your antivirus about scripting, choose to allow the script to run. Search for 302e415a-cb68-4b72-a90c-e2aed2fd58a5 and click OK. Post the logfile from the tool here for me.

Here are the results of that scan. Thank you for your time!

Hi,

Download ERUNT (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Registry-Tweak/Erunt-g.shtml)
Save it to your desktop. Run and install this program.

In the box that opens ONLY choose
System registry.

Then click OK.

Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.

Save text below as fix.reg on Notepad (save it as all files (*.*)) on the Desktop.

It should look like this -> http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/images/reg.gif

Doubleclick fix.reg, press Yes and ok.

Reboot and post a fresh hjt log.

Here is the log as requested. Also, I initially dowloaded the wrong program called "quad registry cleaner". I ran a scan only from that function and it noted well over 1000 issues with my registry in several different categories. Should I Allow this function to clean my registry? Also I guess I should try to fix this 018 filter again through Hijackthis, right? Thanks again for your time in helping me.

Hi,

Better not to allow. These registry cleaners are dangerous applications. I recommend to stay away from them since they can make more damage than give.

Also I guess I should try to fix this 018 filter again through Hijackthis, right?
Yes.

How's the system running now?

sutquig

Hijackthis was still unable to delete the empty registry setting. I did this myself and it is no longer displayed by Hijcakthis. I am cautiously optimistic. I'm going to run virus scans from all of the products you had me download. When I feel comfortable that the system is clean, I will uninstall and reinstall McAfee and update any remaining software. Thank you very much for your time!
