I've been a faithful user of Spybot S&D for years, and have made use of this forum, but this is my first time as a poster.

I'm running an eMachine with WinXP Home Service Pack 2.

Within the past month, my machine will up and reboot itself, sometimes with error messages, sometimes without. It has become more and frequent lately.

I've attempted to run my "dream team" of programs to correct this: CCleaner, Spybot, and AVG anti-virus. All three programs stop running and usually reboot my machine, mid-scans. It's almost as though they hit/find the problem, then get sucker-punched, forcing me to start over. And the reboots keep coming reguardless of "Safe Mode", "Run Windows Normally", "Last Known Configuration", etc.

I've made absolutely no headway, so help in any way, shape, or form will be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Spybot - Search & Destroy is quite CPU intensive. It is possible that the CPU overheating and the system is shutting down to protect the processor. Make sure that the fans are running and that dust is cleared from any ventilation ports in the case.

The problem can happen in both desktops and laptops, although the problem is more prevalent in laptops.

If you have a laptop with one of the one of the following processors:

- Mobile Pentium III-M
- Mobile Pentium 4-M
- Mobile Pentium 4
- Mobile Pentium M / Centrino
- Mobile AMD

Take a look at following suggestion by 100mill:

- Notebook CPU running hot during Spybot - Search & Destroy scan

If you have a desktop consider opening the case and checking to make sure the CPU heat sink is not too dusty. Doubt that this can be a problem, read the following threads:

- Spybot - Search & Destroy causes shut down

Insane. Simple. A can of air and a vacuum. Really?!?

THAT'S ALL IT TOOK?!?

Stick this note somewhere. I was one of the many that skipped over all the overheating issues. "Yeah, yeah, my fans are on, now what?"

Works like it always has.

Brilliant software. Brilliant support.
