View Full Version : Slow Computer - HJT Log

Marialand
2009-08-31, 00:43
The computer is very slow compared to how it was before, including start up.
I don't know if this is normal, but Spybot takes about an hour to fully scan. Also, it stops responding if I click on it.

I disabled TeaTimer, and I used ERUNT to backup the registry, as requested.

Here is the HijackLog:

Hi Marialand

Log is fine but let's check deeper.

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Reason for slowness is here:

Total RAM: 894 MB (22% free)

You have too little RAM for Vista to work smoothly.

I recommend to add more if possible.

Ah! Thank you.

How much RAM do you recommend? How would I put it in? With DRAM modules?

Oh, I have another computer, an XP, which is also slow. Sometimes, a message from Windows pops up saying that the Virtual Memory is low. Does that mean that the RAM is low? And how much RAM would be required for the XP to run smoothly?

2 gigabytes is enough for vista and 512 megabytes for XP :)

No, it doesn't mean that. This (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513) should help.

Thanks. Sorry for my slow responses.

For the RAM, it would come in the form of a chip, right? Since the computer with the XP is old, do I have to find a specific type of chip, or will the new ones work?

How much virtual memory do you recommend?

Yes, chips.

New ones won't work. Do you know which motherboard you have?

Good size is two times amount of RAM.

Uh, not exactly. How can I check?

Two times? Okay. It's already bigger than two times, so it should be okay for now.

Thanks.

Thanks. :)

I already have Everest Home Edition v2 installed.

Motherboard ID <DMI>
Motherboard Name Asus CUW-AM/MEW-AM

What type of chips would be needed for this motherboard?

These (http://www.memoryx.net/ascumome26.html) would be the ones.

Unfortunately it looks that it doesn't support more RAM than 512 megabytes so you can't add more.
