View Full Version : Help Needed - Slow Browser Page Loading

Marvelous007
2009-09-08, 00:58
Hey,

I have been having some issues with my browser loading web pages. Sometimes it would open at regular speed but most often it takes a long time to load (30 seconds or more). I also notice other times when accessing the internet through other means such as game server refreshing while in a game. I thought it was my Spybot-SD Resident high protection setting causing it to slow down the net. Anyways thanks for any help you can offer. Here is my HJT Log.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum, sorry for the delay but we get a bit overwhelmed at times.

You HJT log looks fine, nothing bad on it but lets dig a bit deeper and if nothing is found I can direct you to a windows forum that deals with what your experiencing.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
http://forums.whatthetech.com/post_a4255_MBAM.PNG
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report and also a new HJT log please

Your new log looks fine. Lets double check.

Want to point out that your browser and windows is very out dated, we can fix that when were done.

Download TFC (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe) to your desktop

Close any open windows.
Double click the TFC icon to run the program
TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
Click the Start button to begin the process.
Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
The program should not take long to finish it's job
Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET (http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner)

Here is the log-file that was created. I am still having some issues with loading new web pages, not sure what the problem is if I have no viruses.
Thanks again for the help.

After doing this I decided to do some research and I found this post from a site, indicating slow web page loading from firefox. I tried the fix and it seems to have improved the situation, I don't have a long load anymore.

Here is the blog post fix I used:

http://www.wwco.com/~wls/blog/2008/03/28/firefox-slow-page-load-solved/

All in all I want to thank you for your effort, if you any further suggestions to improve my computer performance please let me know.

Thanks again.

Hi, Great :bigthumb:

Windows and your IE browser are seriously outdated leaving holes for the bad guys to get in.

Open IE and go to Tools> Windows Updates and download and install all critical updates that will include Service Pack 3 and Internet Explorer 8.

Lets update your Java as well.

Go to your Control Panel and click on the Java Icon ( looks like a little coffee cup ) click on About and you should have Version 6 Update 16, if not proceed with the instructions.

Download the latest version Here (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) save it, do not install it yet.

Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)JRE 6 Update 15 <--The wording is confusing but this is what you need

Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java
Reboot your computer
Install the latest version

You can verify the installation Here (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml)

How did I get infected in the first place ?
Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
Tutorial for System Restore (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html) <-- Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.
WhattheTech (http://forums.whatthetech.com/So_how_did_I_get_infected_in_the_first_place_t57817.html)
Grinler BleepingComputer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html)
GeeksTo Go (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?autocom=custom&page=How_did_I)
Dslreports (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10002)

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.

Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.

Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.

IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Safe Surfn
Ken

I think I spoke too soon, this issue still remains. EEK! What shall I do now?
I have updated to SP3, and installed the latest Java.

Good Morning,

Did you also update to IE8 ?

Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.

DDS.com (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds)
DDS.scr (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr)
DDS.pif (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds)

Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control Here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)

Hi,

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/RcAuto1.gif

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c30/ken545/whatnext.jpg

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Good Morning,

Things are looking good :bigthumb:

Lets doublecheck. Also let me know how things are running now ?

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET (http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner)

Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is ticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Hey there, I am still having the same issues, it occurs when I initially load firefox and when I try loading new web pages. It takes a 10-20 seconds to load sometimes. I don't have Internet Explorer 8 either. Will run update after this post.

Here is the latest ESET Log:

Your logs look fine . You still need to update Internet Explorer, the version your running now is not to secure.

How are things running now ?

When I try and run windows update (post WinXP SP3), it says there are 21 fixes available but it gets stuck at the first one: Update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86, and never continues onto the others.

So I still do not have IE8, because it is after the fix listed above. My issues with firefox are still occurring. What shall I do now?

Good Morning,

When you run windows updates, just uncheck this one
.NET Framework Assistant 1.0 x86

Hey,

I ran the update again and it ran fine. So now I am fully updated with IE8 and other fixes. The problem still persists, what do I do now?

Hi,

Are you referring to your browser loading slowly ? Tell me exactly what its doing?

Marvelous007
2009-09-24, 17:17
Well basically firefox has been loading web pages really slow for me. It would occur quite often before the fixes I ran here, but it still occasionally takes 10-20 seconds to load some pages, when this happens its almost unbearable to web surf regularly. I would have to constantly wait for each consecutive page to load. Other times it loads these web pages fine. Not sure what's causing this.

I use Firefox almost 100% of the time, and I have found that when I first boot my computer, when I click on Firefox it takes about 15 seconds to load, but after that it loads just fine.

Open up Firefox and go to Help> About and make sure its version 3.5.3, if not go to Help> Check for updates and install the latest updates.

Open up Firefox and go to Tools> Clear Recent History

Run this cleaner, make sure you run the ones for the Firefox tab also, you may have a bunch of junk in your Temp files slowing it down.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

If none of this helped, then I will direct you to a Firefox forum where the Fire fox experts can help you. Let me know
