Hi,
My friend has an Acer Travelmate 2413LM, Intel Celeron M Processor 370. Running Windows XP with Explorer 7 which we are unable to start up. Either stes to the windows logo with the little load bar and keeps loading, or if you can get to the safe mode options, select safe mode, the list of drivers runs then freezes. The comp doesn't get past either of these points.
He said he was looking on you tube, when a screen came up asking for what I think was Java. He said he pressed something then has a screen running which run for a couple of hours then it stopped and he hasn't been able to start up since. He isn't very comp lit hence the not to sure of whathappened senerio..
I'm wondering if a boot drive has gone but thought to try here first?
Any advice would be greatly received.

That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at your own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.
Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Last Known Good
Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard

If it still won't start then I can link you to some windows support sites that deal with problems like this

Hi Ken545,
I've tried to boot it up in safe mode but we get as far as the items running up screen then the screen freezes then just hangs and we got no further.
I tried both last known and safe mode and teh same things kep happening. Everything just freezes.
Those windows sites may be useful?

Post in one of these forums and when they get you up and running post back here with a Hijackthis log and lets check to see whats going on Malwarewise.

Download Trendmicros Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe) to your desktop.
Double click it to install
Follow the prompts and by default it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis\Highjackthis.exe
Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Submit Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
