Virtumonde Infection

[MontGR]

While running a Spybot check, I notice at the bottom that out of 597,000 files, over 400,000 are taken up by Virtumonde.DII, sdn,and sci. How can these be removed. There are also others, such as Smitfraud and Perfect Keylogger. BTW, even though I have both Avast and Avira, I leave Avast deactivated and only run a scan with it occasionally after deactivating Avira. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

hi,

I believe what you are seeing are the files that spybot is looking for in its definition base, not what its finding on your machine. If this was the case you would be having plenty of the signs (http://www.virusvault.us/signs1.html)of malware.

Sygate was a excellent firewall until symantec purchased it in 2005 and quickly shelved it. Since its no longer developed or being updated it really shouldn't be used. I wouldnt trust it. Up to you.

I use Windows firewall. I recommend them but dont use one myself. a firewall is not really a good way to monitor for possible malware asking for connections. They are often complicated and annoying with there pop ups that people just click right through. a firewall pop up that is malicious means only one thing; The malware is already active and functioning on your machine.

I will list some free ones that i know or use to know as being free. Some may now come bundled with other apps, read first to make sure your just getting a firewall and not 15 other things along with it. Some of these may have paid or trial versions. Try one out, if it dosnt suite you uninstall it and try another.
