View Full Version : Spybot unable to remove Win32.Downloader.dequ

Hi,

Spybot S&D has found malware identified as Win32.Downloader.dequ. It says it can either inform me again, automatically kill or allow this process to run.

I have clicked the suggested Inform me again and clicked Delete the associated file, however it won't do anything. I click ok, nothing happens at all. I encountered the same problem running Avast, it wouldn't do anything. I have now installed AVG (and deleted Avast), but nothing has changed.

How could I go about deleting this malware? I have googled it and found: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=50951

However, that recommends that I let Spybot delete it, and that would be preferable. However it doesn't seem to be able to. Any advice would be gladly appreciated. I have dual boot Ubuntu installed, so I think if needed I can access my windows system from Ubuntu, although I have noticed that failed last time I tried, which is really unusual for Ubuntu.

Any assistance on how to delete this threat would be appreciated.

Thank you!
-den

Some additional information. Read up on what to do. Firstly, the AVG scan finished... it didn't find anything, yet the Spybot will still not delete the file or do anything. Here is the HiJackThis log

"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance)

Hi, Since there's been no reply and there's been a change. I tried going in Ubuntu today on dual boot and it has completely failed, it might be due to the malware here on windows. But I'm not going to try run UBuntu in safe mode unless Spybot can help somehow :(

Here's an updated hijackthis log. I think it's changed somewhat.

Extra info:

I have fixed my problem with Ubuntu. Seems the harddrive had a minor corruption. Fixed by running fsck. This may or maynot have been caused by that trojan.

Hoping for a reply, thanks heaps!

Hi,

Where does Spybot detect the bad item in?

Hi,

It only found it once (so did Avast... once). Since, when I've done a full scan it doesn't find it. I didn't write down where it was found, didn't occur to me :(

Although, I'm 'fairly' sure it was in the D:\WINDOWS\ partition. I also remember it was executed through cmd.exe

Guess there's no need for further action then. Or are there other issues?

The thing is, Spybot or Avast didn't find it during a scan either, it just poped up one time, and that one time everything it felt like Spybot couldn'tdo anything. Itwas completely frozen, i had that screen up asking what do I want spybot to do up for ages, and I couldn't close it, I had to shut down my computer to get rid of it.

Do you believe that despite 'crashing' spybot AND Avast it was deleted? Is there any other check I can do?

Thanks heaps for your replies!

Hi,

You may check with an online scanner if it finds anything.

Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Read the requirements and privacy statement then click on the Accept button.

The program will launch and start to download the latest definition files.

You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run

Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
Archives

Click on My Computer under Scan.

Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.

Click on Save Report As....

Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.

Save this report to a convenient place.

Copy and paste that information into your topic.

The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. As it scans your machine very deeply it could take hours to complete, Kaspersky suggests running it during a time of low activity.

If you need a tutorial, see here (http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj285/Bleeping/KAS/KAS9.gif)
