View Full Version : Pipas.A and Redirects
Spybot is detecting Pipas.A but returns after removal. AVG had a reading error for Dmbsz.exe, not sure what this is. I also get redirected on Google searches part of the time.
I use Spybot, AVG, Micrsoft AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware.
I also loaded Hijack and Fixware based on the forums, but seems there is an "art" to determine what to fix.
Any assistance is much appreciated.

1) Your Java program is out of date and that will get you infected quick. C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06 Use this information and update it:

2) Turn off Microsoft AntiSpyware until you are done:
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

3) Spy Sweeper may block the fix also, turn it off until you are finished. Do you own this program?
Open the program
On the left, click: Options, then > Program Options
Uncheck: Load at windows startup
Again on the left click: Shields and uncheck all items there.
Uncheck: Home Page Shield
Uncheck: Automatically restore default without notification
4) To be sure we will run the complete fix:
Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and any others who helped with this fix.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt
Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
(unless you put these in the TZ, remove them)

Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.
Post a new HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt. Let me know how the computer is running now.

FYI- While I was waiting, I denied the start up registry file DMBSZ.exe through MS Anti Spyware. I ran Spybot again, and Pipas.A was not detected.

Post a new HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt. Let me know how the computer is running now.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
