View Full Version : Spybot S&D keeps asking me to install the detection updates

Hi,
I've had Spybot S&D for awhile now and it's great. However, this time when I tried to run it it asked me install the detection updates by using the integrated udate or the manual updater. I've never had to do this before, I've always just clicked on "Update" before I ran it so that's what I did this time but it kept asking for me to install the detection updates so it must mean something else. I don't know what it means or how to do it. Thanks for any help.

I found a link for SDUpdater.exe-1.6.1 and tried to download it. When I clicked on "search" for updates it said " the external update application has been corrupted. Please make sure you download the Updater update to replace it,". I tried it again and it said the same thing. I uninstalled and reinstalled Spybot S&D several times and it says to search for updates,etc.
BTW, I was trying to run Spybot S&D for several days because it kept crashing. So did other antispyware programs as well as several other problems. I did a search on this site and found I have the exact same problems as this poster. Exactly. It said not to follow what was recommended for him/her so I'm not but I would appreciate some direction as to how I also can get rid of this "bug". Thanks.

OK, I got Spybot S&D to download without the Error messages. Now my problem is that it crashes when it starts to run. It crashes and every other antispyware program I try to run crashes. As I said, I'm having the exact same problems with the same message as this poster, the same redirect to Google,every problem this poster had I've been having for the past week. That's why I wanted to run Spybot S&D.
And like this poster, I can"t get a HJT log either, it crashes too.
