Hello, I have uninstalled Spybot to test because It seams that some entries in the Hosts File (XP) interfere with the new Windows Live Messenger installation.
I cannot sign in to Windows live messenger and I have an error due to Hosts file .

But uninstallong SpyBot does not remove the entries in the Hosts file.

I tried to edit and change the content of the Hosts file but I receive an error popup.

What do I need to do to remove the entries?
Thanks in advance.

Uninstalling Spybot doesn't undo any immunisations you may have applied.
The Spybot immunisation option modifies standard security settings that are part of Windows, your Hosts file and your Internet Browser.
The easiest method to reverse all these immunisations would be to reinstall Spybot and use the Undo option in the Immunise screen.

Hello,
I have reinstalled spybot and "undo" the immunisations.
This is now the contents of the Hosts file .

Some say that it must at least contain "127.0.0.1 localhost"
If this is correct how to add this entry?

When I add it I have an error popup when I save the file.

Thanks in advance

Hello,
I found that my "hosts file" was read only, I changed that and added the "127.0.0.1 localhost" and saved.

The thing is that Spybot-Search&Destroy does not allow you to really remove specific entries. That is why when you undoed the Immunization, you removed every part of the Immunization. I know what you're trying to ask: Can/How [can] I remove the specific entries in the Hosts file that the Messenger is talking about?

Well, you can't because the Messenger is not very specific about which links.

It is not very flexible because you cannot simply use another 3rd party tool and then edit out the links because Spybot will tell you there's a few counters in the Immunization that is missing.
