View Full Version : Malware and Virus Scanners Aborting. Error Message. Fake Windows Security Center.

Hello,

This is my first time posting, so I hope I am following the rules correctly.

I believe I have two separate problems.

First, I somehow acquired this very annoying fake Windows Security Center thing that keeps inundating me with pop-ups to buy the full version.

Second, when I tried to scan the fake WSC out with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and all my other scanners (Spybot, AdAware, Symantec Antivirus), they abort 2-3 seconds into the scan without a trace in regular boot mode and in safe mode. When I try to open them again, I get an error message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."

Again, in both modes. I think I have something nasty and I don't know how to get rid of it. I looked on this forum and saw someone had a similar problem be directed to Avenger, but she has not yet replied. I have run Avenger and will attach that log after the first one.

Here's my log:

I think I found a resolution for myself, after scanning over my log.

I just deleted the entire folder containing: "I:\Program Files\Active Security\asecurity.exe" -noscan

Figured the -noscan was why I couldn't scan. Lo and behold, upon reboot, not only was the fake Windows Security gone, but after reinstalling my scanners (since they kept getting broken), I can run them again without any grief. Currently scanning my machine with multiple malware/virus programs to try and get rid of any residual bugs.

Thanks to anyone who was considering answering my problem. :)
