Hi Everybody

Thisi s my first post on this forum, so please bear with me if I get some of the normal courtsies wrong.

I have been using Spybot on my home PC's (running Windows XP SP2 32 bit version). No problem there! I am now buying an i7 920 PC with 6GB RAM and have hence decided to go for Windows XP SP2 64 bit version (I do not want to touch Vista) to make full use of the more than 3 Gb RAM. The other three PC's on my home network all run on Windows XP SP2 32 bit version).

Would the latest version of Spybot (I take it it is 16.1.xxx) run on Windows XP SP2 64 bit version or do I need something else?

Further, am I supposed to periodically run Spybot or is it like "Always On" kind of application (something like anitvirus and Firewall applications). On my other PC's I have only installed it and gone through the Immunisation/Check for problems/Fix problems only once at the start. Am I supposed to be doing it every so often or is it supposed to automatically protect the system permanently after it has been done once? Obviously, I am not the most informed person about this sort of this (as you can tell - I just want to make sure that my home PC's are protected for infection/infiltration from bad outside cyber world).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Hi. :)
Spybot should run fine on Windows XP SP2 64 bit version.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/paragraphs/spybotsd_ossupport.html

Spybot has different ways of protecting your computer(teatimer, sdhelper, and immunization),but you should still periodically run a spyware scan a.k.a "Check for problems" with Spybot every so often, since that's the spyware scanner part of it,and it will tell you if you have any malware, etc. on your computer. And you should also be sure to check for updates about once a week.

Resident teatimer is an Always On type of protection program,if you enable it.
What is Resident Teatimer? (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/033.html)

This will explain the immunization/sdhelper/teatimer parts of Spybot:

There's also a tutorial here,if you'd like to have a look:
