So whatever I have has disabled Spybot, so I can't disable the tea timer, and canceled out the Hijack this as it was working. It also won't let me use Microsoft's malicious software removal tool. Don't know what to do from here, usually a computer wiz but this is really eating me. It's also infected my Windows Live Messenger so it won't work anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

Your infected with a nasty Rootkit that is preventing most malware and virus programs from running. This can be difficult to remove but can be done.

After you run this program leave it on your desktop

Download and run Win32kDiag:
Download Win32kDiag from any of the following locations and save it to your Desktop.
Download Win32kDiag (Win32kDiag.exe) - #1 (http://ad13.geekstogo.com/Win32kDiag.exe)
Download Win32kDiag (Win32kDiag.exe) - #2 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/rootrepeal/Win32kDiag.exe)
Download Win32kDiag (Win32kDiag.exe) - #3 (http://rootrepeal.psikotick.com/Win32kDiag.exe)

Double-click Win32kDiag.exe to run Win32kDiag and let it finish.
When it states "Finished! Press any key to exit...", press any key on your keyboard to close the program.
Double-click on the Win32kDiag.txt file that is located on your Desktop and post the entire contents of that log as a reply to this topic.

It's already been running for about an hour, how long should this take?

ken545
2009-10-24, 23:56
It should only take a minute or so, close it out and delete it and redownload it and try it again

Hiryuu24
2009-10-25, 00:01
It keeps going to Cannot Access: and then goes over MULTIPLE files that take about 5-10 minutes to scan each, and won't stop.

Here is the scan after about five minutes:

Thats fine, make sure its still on your desktop.

Click on Start->Run, and copy-paste the following command (the bolded text) into the "Open" box, and click OK. When it's finished, there will be a log called Win32kDiag.txt on your desktop. Please open it with notepad and post the contents here.
"%userprofile%\desktop\win32kdiag.exe" -f -r

Great,

Please download exeHelper (http://www.raktor.net/exeHelper/exeHelper.com) to your desktop.

Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com)
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

I will be on and offline most of the evening, have to jump off once here and there and watch the Florida Gators beat Mississippi State

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

@SC CONFIG EVENTLOG START= DISABLED

Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/bat_icon.gif

Double click on fix.bat & allow it to run.

What we have been doing is disabling this rootkit and now we should be able to run Combofix to remove it.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 3 (http://subs.geekstogo.com/ComboFix.exe)

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
See this Link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html) for programs that need to be disabled and instruction on how to disable them.
Remember to re-enable them when we're done.

Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/RC1.png

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/RC2-1.png

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply along with a New Hijackthis log.

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

Spybot also will still not turn on, but Avast does, as of right now. Going to try to do a system scan.

EDIT: Avast is now saying it no longer has the proper skins to run and just won't run at all. I don't want to download a new skin until you tell me this is normal.

Hi,

c:\program files\DNA\btdna.exe <-- This most likely how you got infected. Read this please.

We have noticed that many people seeking help from us are coming with infections contracted from the use of P2P programs.

Because of this, we changed our malware forum's policy on the use of P2P file sharing programs.

If your helper detects the presence of such programs on your computer he/she will ask you to remove them. Help will be withdrawn should you not agree to their removal.
If we clean your computer of infection, and you return to us a short time later with an infection contracted by the use of P2P programs, volunteer analysts will refuse their help.

We do not ask you to do this without reason.

P2P (File Sharing ) programs form a direct conduit onto your computer, their security measures are easily circumvented, and Malware writers are increasingly exploiting them to spread their wares onto your computer. Further to that, if your P2P program is not configured correctly you may be sharing more files than you realize. There have been cases where people's Passwords, Address Books and other personal, private, and financial details have been exposed to the file sharing network by a badly configured program.

Many of the programs come bundled with other unwanted programs, but even the ones free of any bundled software are not safe to use.

This article from InfoWorld illustrates the dangers of a poorly configured P2P program.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/...ID-theft_1.html (http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/09/06/Seattle-man-arrested-for-p-to-p-ID-theft_1.html)

When you use them you are downloading software from an unknown source directly onto your computer, bypassing your Firewall and Anti-Virus software. Hardly surprising then that many of these Downloads are being targeted to carry infections.

Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall Viewpoint, it installs without your knowledge or consent, is considered Adware, uses system resources and is not needed for anything.

Open notepad and then copy and paste the bolded lines below into Notepad.
Go to File > save as and name the file fixes.bat.
Change the Save as type to all files and save it to your desktop.

@echo off
sc stop npggsvc
sc delete npggsvc

Double-click on fixes.bat file to execute it.

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

It won't do a log, it posts:

Autolt Error
Line -1:
Error: variable used without being declared.

Should I uninstall this DNA program too? I have no idea how it or Viewpoint got on my computer, as I don't P2P. I do work for a texting company though so I can only imagine I touched a bad site in my searches. Just tell me to delete and I will.

Viewpoint comes bundled with AOL products, its a useless program and is slowly making its way to being classified as adware.

You should uninstall DNA, it will keep you and whoever uses your computer out of trouble.

Try dropping RSIT into this program.

Download Inherit (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/MiniFixes/Inherit.exe) and save it to your desk top
Drag each of the exe files that you are unable to run into Inherit.exe (must be the exe - not the shortcut)
Then wait for it to say "OK"

[B]RSIT doesn't work no matter what. Still same error code. I don't know where to find Avast and Spybot .exe files, so they still don't work. I did uninstall DNA though. Hijack this was the only one fixed thus far from this Inherit.

You can go to C:\Program Files\Avast and look for avast.exe, minimize the window and drag it to Inherit.

Try to run both of these. Drag them to Inherit if they wont run. Malwarebytes will be found in Program Files as well

Download TFC (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe) to your desktop

Close any open windows.
Double click the TFC icon to run the program
TFC will close all open programs itself in order to run,
Click the Start button to begin the process.
Allow TFC to run uninterrupted.
The program should not take long to finish it's job
Once its finished it should automatically reboot your machine,
if it doesn't, manually reboot to ensure a complete clean

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
http://forums.whatthetech.com/post_a4255_MBAM.PNG
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Post the report and also a new HJT log please

Log looks fine :bigthumb:

Lets update your Java to make your system more secure

Go to your Control Panel and click on the Java Icon ( looks like a little coffee cup ) click on About and you should have Version 6 Update 16, if not proceed with the instructions.

Download the latest version Here (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp) save it, do not install it yet.

Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)JRE 6 Update 16 <--The wording is confusing but this is what you need

Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java
Reboot your computer
Install the latest version

You can verify the installation Here (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml)

As a final check I would like you to run this free online virus scanner

Please run this free online virus scanner from Kaspersky (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
This will start the program and scan your system.
The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.

Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.

Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
Then, click: Save
Please post the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in your reply.

How are things running now ??

Another update here:
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Spybot. There is now a hidden undeleteable (no matter how many programs I use from File Shredders to Pocket Killbox) named SpybotSD.exe. Can't see it in the folder, but the folder registers 5.1MB that cannot be deleted. I feel like this might be a source also of my problems, and I need a spyware remover/protector. I even uninstalled Spybot and nothing. All of the files are gone, except that one.

Thanks.

Lets uninstall Spybot and leave it uninstalled until were done. After its uninstalled, read this.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html

I understand that, but everything else deleted except this hidden undeletable file that is supposedly the main executing file, SpybotSD.exe. Even so, it won't let me reinstall, so that's fine.

It also says Kaspersky is being updated and improved, and won't let me do any downloading unless I do some free 30 day trial. Help here?

You can run this one from ESET instead and when where done I will link you to the Spybot support forum that can help you straighten that all out.

Please run this free online virus scanner from ESET (http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner)

Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
Click Start
When asked, allow the activex control to install
Click Start
Make sure that the option Remove found threats is ticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
Click Scan
Wait for the scan to finish
Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Still finding Trojans and things in the eventlog.dll. And it seems like things were left over from having Frostwire at one time or another. Should I go in and delete these or just leave them quarantined?

ken545
2009-10-25, 16:17
The file from eventlog was just a backup of what Combofix removed, not to worry. The other one was from downloading files with FrostWire, I would uninstall that real quick and stay away from programs like that. The programs themselves are safe its just you never know whats riding along with that download.

They're running okay right now. Programs that wouldn't work before now are, and I have Windows Defender instead of Spybot. Avast now works after Inherit was used, and I changed all channels to Strong protection. I'm going to do a disk cleanup after all the damage but will keep all programs you advised me to download, especially Inherit, if something happens again.

The good test will be when I get home and have my 'gamer' internet again, which is 1mb/sec transfer rate, because I'm at my parent's house for the weekend which isn't the best of internet.

Thank you again, Ken. I work online and haven't been able to for the past 2 weeks. I'll be donating to you in about two weeks once I actually -get- to work again.

Thanks, thanks, and thanks again!

Thats great :bigthumb:

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/)
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.

Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.

Spyware Guard (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts, again, no scan to run, just install it and let it do its thing.

IE-Spyad (http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23332-order,1-page,1-c,antispywaretools/description.html)
IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.

Safe Surfn

alright, check check and check, but here is my CONTINUAL problem with spybot:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v259/Jupiter_InuChan/spybot.jpg

I did install blaster and guard, so I should be fine, but I liked having Spybot. However every time I install it, it says it can't go over file SpybotSD.exe. Then it's hidden, I can't delete it, and it's always there. I even tried file shredders and file killers. But now I can't even try to use Inherit because that file is completely hidden.

Other than that, everything is smooth. Thanks

Please download OTM (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTM.exe) by OldTimer.

Save it to your desktop.
Please click OTM and then click >> run.
Copy the lines inside the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

:Processes
explorer.exe

:Services

:Reg

:Files
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

:Commands
[purity]
[emptytemp]
[start explorer]
[Reboot]

Return to OTM, right click in the "Paste Instructions for items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
Click the red Moveit! button.
Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
Close OTM

Note: If an item cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Post the log, reboot and try installing spybot again
