Suspected SpywareNo!/SpyTrooper Infection

Hi,

I've recently been having problems with my web browser opening and taking me to a site for something called winantivirus. Once at the site, something tries to automatically download, which Avast On-access Scanner recognizes as a virus and blocks. This has happened several times.

I'm not sure if this is related or a different problem completely, but Avast has found something called "Win32: CTX" in these locations:

C:\DOCUME~1\Hp_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\VEMCFHa02036
(I got the warning from Avast right as I started trying to do a Panda Online Scan, so am not sure if there's actually a problem or if it's just because Avast's detection settings are on high - I'm clueless about this stuff!)

Trendmicro's online scanner found no problems on my computer. Also, Spybot, McAfee Antispyware, Adaware, and Avast On-access Scanner have been unable to find the source of the infection. (And yes, Spybot's virus definitions are up to date).

I ran Spybot in safe mode, and there were still no problems found.

I would like to see a copy of:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Cammsp.dll

Click start / then my computer / local disk then follow the process tree.
Or using Windows Explorer, locate the first file you want to zip.
Right click on the file and select Send To and Compressed (zipped) Folder.
This makes a copy it does not delete it.

Download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4) to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
* You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
* When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Turn your computer back on.

When it finished scanning, it said no infectious files had been found.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Download Ewido Security Suite (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/) it is a trial version of the program.
Install ewido security suite
Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/)

Once the updates are installed do the following:
Click on scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite and post the results here.
With a new hijackthis log.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated

In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE


It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.
