Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Blade, forgive me if this sounds stupid -- I did what you asked, but when I try to run the .scr file, it says,

"Cannot find the program to use to open this program...." blah blah blah.

I tried to open it using Notepad, but it was just a bunch of gibberish.

Hi,

Please try one of the other links.

Actually, I tried all 3 -- the first appears to be a bad link or one I can't access, the second comes in as an .scr, & the third as a .pif. The .scr & .pif give me the same "what program do you want to use?" message!!!

Hi,

Please download exeHelper (http://www.raktor.net/exeHelper/exeHelper.com) to your desktop.
Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
Post the contents of log.txt (Will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com)
Note: If the window shows a message that says Error deleting file, please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

See if you're able to run DDS now.

Blade, I am SO sorry, but even that program gives me the same message -- I don't know what's going on, my PC is running fine otherwise, I run .exe files all the time with no problem at all.....

What on earth should I do?

Hi,

Let's try other scanner :)

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized, if not you'll find it in c:\rsit folder)

Okay, for heavens sake, huh!!! Here is log.txt, I'll get the other in just a minute:

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire

I'd like you to read this thread (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282).

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

After that:

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New rsit log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Blade, sorry for the delay in responding to your last message, but I was out of town & away from my desktop for a few days.

I ran the ComboFix program, & fraud.windowsprotectionsuite is gone! SpyBot comes up clean.

So I assume all is well; thank you very much for your assistance.

Good. May I see those logs, please? :)

Blade, I apologize, I just re-checked this site as I was cleaning out some IE bookmarks & saw your response; I have since deleted all of the programs you had me download to clean up the Malware, as well as the log reports.

(I was running an imaged backup of my desktop as I do every month & didn't want to have all of that still on there when I did the backup, for cleanliness's sake.)

I am sorry!

Rachel

It's ok but ComboFix has to be uninstalled properly :)

Please download ComboFix file from one of these locations to your desktop:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)

Then do the following:

Click START then RUN
Now copy-paste Combofix /uninstall in the runbox and click OK

Blade, okay, it's uninstalled.

Thank you SO much.

:thanks:

Sorry again about the logs, I do tend to get ahead of myself -- please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Rachel

If the problem is not existing anymore then I believe we're ready :)
