Spyware Doctor 7

On my Mom's PC someone downloaded a "free" version of Spyware Doctor 7 ( I question if this is really the real program). It indicated all sorts of malware that it found, but to remove it a cost was involved. In an attemp to get rid of the popups and that program Mom attempted to remove the Spyware Doctor 7 (of course she calls me after her attempt). Now she seems to have lost her connection to the internet. She has a cable modem thru the Time Warner system in our area.

Where do I even start to correct this problem?

That phrasing sounds like a whole lot of trouble,

someone ----- Who?
downloaded ---- from where ?
"free" ------ free to download, free to use, cracked ????

Without seeing any logs, the best advice I can give would be to use System Restore to "go back" to before the program was installed.
