I have seen this issue for others, i search something in google and the links are taken to other sites, random at best.

Also, when this started i had issues with sptd.sys. I had to get into safe mode and remove it before being able to return to normal windows. I was getting a 'Stop 0x00000024' blue screen while loading windows.

I think this all started with a video that 'needed a codec' to run, and it tried to install 'video licence codec.exe' there was a page that popped up and had a big 'download' graphic button. my mistake on clicking it...but i need to get rid of this, its interrupting a lot of my work and my computer in general!

here is my HJT:

Edit
"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)
---------------------
Another development! :buried:

I have downloaded and installed windwo's security updates. I had to restart my computer to finish, and now I have returned to the 'stop 0x00000024' error when I boot into windwos.

One thing is different from before, and that is that the sptd.sys option does not show up, and the error (in safemode or normal boot up) appears right where the sptd.sys option was.

At this time, I cannot get on my computer, I will be researching how to get back in. Please help me if you know anything! I have recovery console available, other then that I have a linux boot that I use from a USB device. I have access to all windows files from it.

Hello and :welcome: to Safer Networking

My name is peku006 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.
I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

Please observe these rules while we work:

If you don't know or understand something please don't hesitate to ask
Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

1 - download and run RSIT

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

2 - Status Check
Please reply with

the logs from RSIT (log.txt ,info.txt)

Thank you for your reply!

One thing stands in the way of getting that log for you, and it is that I cannot get into windows, please refer to the edit by admin at the bottom of my post.

I will try running that log through 'wine' a program for linux that runs exe's under winxp simulated environment.

TheMafia

I ran that log you specified through linux, and it only was able to log things that were in the linux simulated environment.

Are there any generic symptoms that I can handle through linux?

Like:
File Removal?
Registry Editing?

Hi TheMafia

Have you tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" bootup option?

To load the last known good configuration:

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
(If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.)
Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" and press your Enter key.

Thanks peku006

To be honest with you I dont know, but I have tried safe mode, and regular boot.

I will try last know, but i dont expect any changes, I will let you know.

TheMafia

Yup, its the same, i get the blue screen with 'stop 0x00000024 (details...)' error within 1 second of the windows loading screen starting. This happens in all modes.

The error seems generic, a driver is being initiated, or something is damaged.

Please advise

Peku, please understand, I have access to a recovery console already.

I have a windows xp cd, where i can get into a 'from cd' recovery console.

I want you to know, that I can get into the console and type commands. What commands should I run?

Or is there other things I should do in the recovery console.

or does the recovery console that is installed different from that of the CD recovery console??

Please do not say install and run console again. this is a waste of time,

I HAVE ACCESS TO THE CONSOLE!

the problems you are experiencing are not likely to be malware related. I think the best and fastest solution for you is to post on a PC troubleshooting forum like

Tech support guy (http://forums.techguy.org/)

windows (http://forums.techguy.org/49-operating-systems/)- problems with operating systems and windows problems
all other software (http://forums.techguy.org/18-all-other-software/)- problems with all other software

and
