View Full Version : Left overs from System defender

I was able to successfully get the main portion out of the System Defender rogue antivirus, but I believe it dropped off a few nasty problems.

Whenever I am on google clicking on a search result, it redirects to something completly different and useless. I relised this was a problem to do with the HOST file, so I checked it out and found a few that werent suppose to belong, I try to delete them, but I get an error after trying to save.

"Cannot create the C:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc hosts file
Make sure that the path and file name are correct."

I also ran a spybot scan and it found Microspft.Windows.RedirectedHosts & Fraud.WindowsProtectionSuite. But it failed to get rid of it because of the above error. Even if I were to try to immunize it said it cannot gain access to Window's Host(global).

Here is my HJT log, but during the process it mentioned system denied write access to host files, similar to the above error. Anyways....

Hi spartin268

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.
