View Full Version : Spybot 1.6.2 Unloading User Registry Hives Windows 7 problem

Hi,

I have been a Spybot user for many years.

Lately I have been having a issue on my Windows 7 laptop and Spybot 1.6.2 (latest).

When I try to start a scan I get something like this in the title bar: "Unloading User Registry Hives". Spybot freezes and will not let me scan. I've left it like this for 30 mins and nothing...

I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7, even on a clean installation the same issue is there...

It does this in Safe mode too. I've disabled AVG and even uninstalled it but it's made no difference.

All the previous versions have worked fine without issue.

Nothing harmful etc is running in the background.

Please help me out.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Laurence

Hello,

How many users has your system?
The unloading is done by Windows, all we do is tell Windows to unload the registry hives we've previously loaded.
Or do you maybe have multiple Windows installations?

This thread in our forum should also help:

Spybot is ready for Win 7 64bit?

Hello,

Spybot - Search & Destroy should work under Windows 7 (also 64bit) without any problems.
We have already done some tests with Spybot - Search & Destroy on Windows 7.
Please have a look at this link (http://forums.spybot.info/project.php?issueid=373) in our forum.
A fully compatible and Windows 7 certified version should be Spybot 2.0, but we have no release date yet.

I just had the same problem as described in this post
win 7 64 bit 4 mb ram X2 processor
Administrator, two user accounts, and guest
happened upon update
message was "unloading registry hives" in very top bar
but Spybot had crashed (I waited a couple of hours)
system was still ok for other tasks, system had not crashed
after reboot spybot updated and re-immunized ok

machine has latest spybot and also Spyware blaster, avast, comodo, sd helper, t-timer
