Hello,
I am having the same issue as many I see on this board. There is a virus/bug that redirects me to a myriad of sites when I click on my search results from any of the major search engines.

Here is my hijackthis report:

Hi,

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.

Download GMER (http://www.gmer.net) here by clicking download exe -button and then saving it your desktop:
Double-click .exe that you downloaded
Click rootkit-tab and then scan.
Don't check
Show All
box while scanning in progress!
When scanning is ready, click Copy.
This copies log to clipboard
Post log (attach if very long) in your reply.

How do I disable the 'script blocker'? I am very sorry, I am an idiot when it comes to computer stuff.

Thank you very much for helping me!

Hi,

Disabling your antivirus protection before DDS run should be enough :)

Hi,

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html)
Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

I honestly believe I did everything to a T to run comboFix but it never asked me to do a backup and actually restarted my computer without me knowing. When the CPU came back up and the log was posted I seemed to have lost tons of stuff. My desktop photo is gone, all my bookmarks for firefox and explorer are gone. In fact everything looks completely different! What the heck happened? I am very scared.

It did produce a log and I still have it on my cpu but I am afraid to do anything else (I am typing this from my other computer).

I can't post the log... I am emailing from a different computer than the one that was infected because the one that is infected is a mess and I am afraid that this combofix has caused a major problem. After I clicked on the 'run' button for combofix I did nothing else. I was waiting for the disclaimer to come up... it never did, I was waiting for the registry back up to come up and it never did... the program went right into the AutoScan mode. Then, all of the sudden it restarted my computer! I was a bit unnerved for I didn't see anywhere in the instructions where it was going to reboot my computer.
When my CPU rebooted the resolution was at the lowest setting (nothing I did) and my desktop background was not the photo I had it set for but was the default background. All of my icons on my Desktop are gone and I have not looked to check to see if any of my saved files are gone. I am very worried.

Please help me figure out what happened and how to fix it.

Please!

Blade 81,
I have thankfully connected my infected CPU to the internet but it is SOOOOOOO slow that it sometimes does not find the site that I am directing it to. I can now post the ComboFix log below!

Blade,
I am trying to navigate around my CPU and each time I click on something it is acting like it is the first time I am opening it and asking me to install it. I am now under the impression that my entire CPU has been fried by the ComboFix... do you think that is accurate or can I recover my old system?

I just tried to see if any of my documents are still on my cpu but it looks like I have to reinstall Micrsoft Office in order to even find out... I am really stressed and worried. Please let me know what is going on.

jones72,

I can't see any abnormal removals in ComboFix log. What is the current situation there? Kindly list down the things that are wrong there and let me know if you had a manual reboot yet.

My cpu was completely disabled. Running the Combofix screwed up my cpu to the point where I was on the phone with a very nice guy from SupportSpace from 4:30pm till 12:30pm yesterday just getting my cpu back to where I could see and access my files. The problem is the browser-redirect virus is still there. I now have AVG as my firewall/antivirus program (installed yesterday with the tech) as I believe this virus came in around my Norton.

The tech could not figure out the problem with the browser-redirect virus. Please advise.

I used a spyware finder called Trojan Remover that found the corrupted file. It was in my System32 file and what it did was change the name of the file by adding one letter to its name. Thus the reason the other programs could not find the problem.

You might want to have some of these people use the Trojan Remover

Hi,

Are you still experiencing redirecting after doing what you stated? If yes does it happen with both IE and Firefox?
