Firewall and AntiVirus Disabled

Hi. I had this same problem in March, and shelf life checked everything and found nothing wrong with my system. Could someone please check it again. There's definitely something going on when my MS Firewall was found to be turned off at startup last week, and this week on two occasions I've found Norton AntiVirus disabled at startup. No other users have access to my computer. Following are my requisite logs:

Are you refering to the "Windows Security Center" detections from a SpyBot scan ?

Hi Lonny. Thanks for the response. No, Spybot detects nothing wrong with my system. When Windows Firewall was turned off I got a message from Windows telling me I was at risk because my firewall was turned off. Windows Security Centre showed it as on, actually, but I turned it off and on again just to be on the safe side.

Regarding Norton A/V, about once or twice a week when I boot up lately I've found the notorious red X on my Norton icon. I think one of these times only I found Norton saying it was disabled; but most of the time it indicates that it is enabled, so I do the disable/enable routine here too.

My Security Centre settings showed Firewall and Automatic Updates checked, but the Virus Protection unchecked. I've checked it now since it acknowledges Norton is my virus software.

I'm currently running Norton A/V, Windows Firewall, Windows Defender (spyware), Ad-Aware, and Spybot. Could any of these be conflicting with each other?

Shelf life told me there was nothing wrong with my system when these alerts were displaying in March. But frankly I find them disturbing. It seems to me that something's not working right if I continue to find my security systems turned off.

Any ideas?

The message you got was from windows security center

You Might get more opinions with other online scans, such as Houscall, Kaspersky, bitdefender has one to.

You might consider a differant antivirus program (norton is to common) and to use a third party firewall rather than the one windows provide's.
If you do that then the windows security center can be safely turned off.

OK, Lonny. I'll look into an alternative A/V program and firewall protection. And I'll try running BitDefender. Unfortunately I'm on dial-up and some of these online scans exceed my online time limit. I think Bit Defender was one of these.

Anyhow, this is all rather discouraging. I've been using Norton A/V since 2002 and never had a problem up until this spring. Maybe I'll try Macafee. If that's not what you'd recommend, please advise.

Most of the onlines don't require we be connected once the activex and controls/updates/definitions have been installed.

In my opinion Mcafee is OK, but also has the same problem, its to common.

I had started a thread previously about my firewall and Norton A/V (2003) being turned off at startup. Before I got a chance to reply to a question of Lonny's, that thread was closed for lack of activity.

I worked through the instructions down through "Section 4: Check whether the required Symantec and Windows services are started," and have not had anymore incidents with Norton A/V being disabled since. So far I haven't had to reinstall Norton (which is the last step on that page).
