"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288)

Posting additional comments or logs before a volunteer responds, can push you back instead of forward, because your thread ends up with a newer date. In addition helpers would think you are already being assisted because of the post count. For that reason we may merge such posts but please do not count on it.

Hello and welcome to Safer Networking Forums

My handle is shinybeast and I will be assisting you in the removal of malware your computer may have.

Please follow these guidelines as we work to clean your computer.
Read through the instructions before you perform them and if you have questions please ask before you perform them. Please do not guess. I will be happy to clarify or explain.
Perform all instructions in the order given.
Stick with the process until I give you an "all clean." If the symptoms are gone, it does not necessarily mean your computer is safe and secure.
Do not run any other tools to remove malware while we are working.
If your security software throws up warnings about some of these tools, please allow these tools to run, they are safe.
If you have not done so, please take time to read the "BEFORE you POST" (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288) sticky where the preliminary tasks and conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

NOTE: I am in training at Malware Removal University.
I must get my replies to you approved by a malware expert which means it could take slightly longer to get back to you.
Your patience is appreciated. :)

Installed Program List

It would be helpful to see a list of programs installed on your computer.

Please start HijackThis
Click Main Menu button
Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
Click the Open Uninstall Manager... under System Tools

You will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
Please click the Save List... button and specify where you would like to save the list.
Once you click Save, the list will open in Notepad. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of Notepad in your next post.

Hello gammo2,

P2P Software

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

LimeWire 5.2.13

I'd like you to read File Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer. (P2P) (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=282) where this forum's policy is explained.

Ad-Aware is a decent program but not effective against current threats. Please uninstall it as to avoid interference with tools we use.

Uninstall Programs

Click Start, click Run...
Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Add or Remove Programs
For each of the programs listed below, highlight them in the list and click Remove

Ad-Aware
LimeWire 5.2.13
LiveUpdate Notice (Symantec Corporation)

Once finished, close Add or Remove Programs window

Disable Spybot and Backup Registry

Please disable Spybot Tea Timer and back up Registry as decribed in this topic: Before you post a HJT log (http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=1150&postcount=2)
Remember to reboot after disabling Tea Timer

Scan with RSIT

Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here (http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe) and save it to your desktop.
Double-click RSIT.exe to run the tool
Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
Once it finishes, two logs will open...
log.txt will be opened maximized
info.txt will be opened minimized
Please post the contents of both logs in your next post.

Hi gammo2,

You have two options.

1. You uninstall LimeWire as per the Forum Rules and we help you with your issues. Read this post (http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?p=218503#post218503).

OR

2. You keep LimeWire and we will close the thread and you will receive no further help.

If you choose the first option, do the following.

Uninstall Programs

Click Start, click Run...
Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter to open Add or Remove Programs
For each of the programs listed below, highlight them in the list and click Remove

LimeWire 5.2.13

Warning: Any existing remnants of the program will be removed during cleaning.

Then do the following.

Please download this tool (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012) from Microsoft.
Double click on MGADiag.exe to run it.
Click Continue.
The program will run. It takes a while to finish the diagnosis, please be patient.
Once done, click on Copy.
Open Notepad and paste the contents in the window.
Save this file and copy/paste it in your next reply.

And finally, do the following.

Please start HijackThis
Click the Open the Misc Tools section button
Click the Open Uninstall Manager... under System Tools

You will see a list of programs installed on your computer.
Please click the Save List... button and specify where you would like to save the list.
Once you click Save, the list will open in Notepad. Simply copy and paste the entire contents of Notepad in your next post.

Please include the uninstall list and the MGA diagnostic log in your next reply.

If you choose the second option, please let me know and we will close this thread.

Hello gammo2,

Thank you very much !!!!!!!!
You're welcome!

Please perform the following.

Backup Registry With ERUNT

Before we make changes to the registry, we need to back it up.

Highlight and Copy the entire command line from the code box below

"C:\Program Files\ERUNT\ERUNT.EXE" %SystemRoot%\ERDNT\pre-fix
Click Start, then click Run...
In the Run window, paste the command into the Open: box then click OK.

You should briefly see a window with progress bars indicating that Erunt is backing up your registry.

Download and run OTM

MSConfig Advice

"The System Configuration utility helps you find problems with your Windows XP configuration. It does not manage the programs that run when Windows starts." -- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310560

MSConfig is designed to be used for troubleshooting system problems. When you use it to disable something "permanently" using Selective Startup there may be one or more of the following consequences.

Malware can remain inactive in the system and be activated at a later date when Normal Startup is selected.
Uninstalling a program that has been disabled may not properly uninstall the program. Also, boot errors may occur as a result of selecting Normal Startup after uninstalling a program disabled using Selective Startup.
Using MSConfig to disable Services can cause the computer to be unbootable should you disable a critical one.

Please run MSConfig and select Normal Startup.
Then use the following options to deal with startups.

Uninstall the program if you are sure you do not want it.
Look in the program's settings to see if there is a setting to stop it from starting when Windows starts.
Use a Startup Manager such as Startup Manager (http://startupmanager.org/), Autoruns (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) or WinPatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/) (WinPatrol also offers additional security).

Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php) and save to a convenient location.
Double-click the mbam-setup.exe file that you download to start the installation
Go through the install screens and before you click finish ensure that these two check boxes are checked.
Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

The program will then check for updates. If you have a firewall installed and it throws up a warning, please allow Malwarebytes through.
Once it checks for and gets any updates tick Perform quick scan
Click Scan
When it finishes, click OK in the window that pops up and then click Show Results in the main window
Ensure that all items are checked and click Remove Selected.
When the removal is complete, a logfile will open. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the logfile in your next reply. See NOTE below
If necessary, the logfile can also be accessed by running Malwarebytes' and clicking the Log tab. Double-click the current log to open it.
NOTE: If Malwarebytes' encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let it proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent Malwarebytes' from removing all the malware.
