Can't Change Desktop, I.E. won't work

Hi there. A search revealed no threads with these problems.

One day my desktop wallpaper was changed to display a warning that I had a virus, but it didn't say what program it was. I couldn't change my desktop wallpaper through Display Properties, only by right-clicking on an image in Firefox.

In Internet Explorer, I couldn't open any pages. In Steam, I couldn't read the news page or community pages, but I could join servers.

And when I moved some files using a thumb drive, the other computer through McAfee, reported destroying a trojan.

No virus programs I have used have helped.

I have AntiRootKit, AVG, HijackThis, GMer and SpyBotSD.

It's a Toshiba Laptop with Win XP Home SP3.

Hi,

Could you post a log of GMER scan, please?

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here (http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/dds) or here (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr) or here (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/dds).
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds.scr to run the tool.
When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post them back to your topic.
