I've never posted before so I hope this works. I've got cmdService, which cant be fixed as it's always in memory, it may be corrected at reboot, but it never is corrected. I notice I'm supposed to attached a log, but I don't know what this is and can't find something that looks like it. Please help if you can, but I think I need basic help also.

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you are talking about the items that show in the Spybot scan, they are rarely a problem, but oftem folks will overlook bad problems because all they see is that and they associate issues with it. We would really need to look at a HJT log and there are steps you need to take before you post one. Here is the information you need:

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have to tell you that you are hijacked by some lowlifes in the Ukraine, see this:
http://whois.domaintools.com/85.255.115.94 They do have access to your computer when you are online, so stay offline as much as possible until we kick them out. You also have other nasties. Please follow the directions carefully.
Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and anu others who helped with this fix.
You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.
Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt
(hold those logs until we finish)
Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Microsoft AntiSpyware may block the changes we must make, turn it off until your are done:
Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
When we are finished, you will want to review this information. Please do not download anything while we are working unless I request it, thanks.

Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do.
Restart the computer and post the C:\fixwareout\report.txt and a new HJT log. Please add any comments you think will help. This one is a bit of a mess, so we are going to have more work to do no doubt.

You need to slow down and take your time. Almost all of the stuff I asked you to remove with HJT is still in the HJT log. Look at what you are supposed to be removing, try the complete fix again. This is nothing to be rushed and I can't do it for you.

That is much better, looks like the Wareout (Ukranians) are out of here. One of these infections has messed up your Zones (015's), and we need to get it back where it belongs. Normally just using HJT on them returns them but this did not seem to happen. Let try this:

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

You can also update to Windows Defender when you have the chance, supposed to be a much better product.
If you are still having an issues with the: cmdService give me more information, what program is finding it and where does it say it is running from.

Hi.

Spybot, AddWare, and MS AntiSpyWare are coming up clean. Haven't run McAfee yet (forgot).
CCleaner ran and registry is fixed, I guess.
However I do have a problem with desktop, this started at the time yesterday when I realized I had some problem and cdmService was diagonosed.
Desktop is solid red with a black rectangle in the middle.
Flashing red "DANGER: SPYWARE"
in lower corners says "RAZE SPYWARE for as low as $49.95" :(

Would you follow these instructions, sounds like Smitfraud but I see nothing in the log. Make sure you only run what I have requested.

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for that report, as you can see it located a problem right in the area of your issues;
C:\WINNT\desktop.html FOUND !
Let's run the rest of the fix, the report from SmitfraudFix will be all I need for right now. Let's see what it does.
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
Let me know how you are running once that item is removed.

To tell you the truth, that set of infections had me a little confused. This is probably what brought it all in: ibm00025.exe
I understand the Wareout but not why one item associated with Smitfraud was all that was present. With a Smitfraud infections there are usually markers that can be seen in the log and never one hiddem item effecting the desktop like that. Who knows what these lowlifes will come up with next.
It's almost like parts of the infection were removed before I saw a log?
