Command Service Problem

Hey all!

I'm having the same problems as others here - command service seems to have gotten on my computer, and won't go away. *sigh*

I'm not, by any means, qualified to decipher HijackThis, so I thought I'd come here. I've attached my HJT log file... and any help you can give will be much appreciated!

Hello Manda and welcome to the forum. Let's remove the junk and clean a little as we do. Then we will see how you are running. If this sounds good, follow the directions in the numbered order, thanks.

Is this >> C:\Program Files\Blurty\Blurty.exe safe? looks like it is?
let me know to be sure.

Instructions start here:

1) Disable the offending Service
Click Start > Run and type services.msc
Scroll down to Command Service and right click on it.
Click Properties and under Service Status click Stop, then under Startup Type change it to Disabled.

Delete the offending Service
Open HijackThis and click Config -> Misc Tools -> Delete an NT service.
In the Delete window, type (cmdService) and press OK.
OK any prompts, close HijackThis, and restart your computer.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

3) Enable hidden files&folders..reverse the process when finished.

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\QW1hbmRhIEpvcmRhbg\ <<< check to make sure that folder is gone.

4) C:\Windows\Prefetch\ >>> delete the contents (NOT THE FOLDER)

Follow the instructions at the link to clean, you won't need to do Prefetch again since you just cleaned it.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune

Save it to your Desktop.
Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log and let me know how the computer is running now.

Wow... thanks for the efficent reply and instructions! :bigthumb:

Okay, first, C:\Program Files\Blurty\Blurty.exe is a program that I use to update my online journal. I've never had any problems with it, and I don't think it was bundled with anything, so I usually just ignore it because I know what it is.

As for performance, my computer runs about the same, though startup time is definitely not as slow, and for that I'm thankful. However, I ran Spyboy S&D after all was done, and it still picks up CommandService.

That might be because while I was following your instructions, I got to step #2 (open HJT and click on the boxes beside the lines you mentioned), and I could (and did) find and fix all of them EXCEPT this one:

O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\QW1hbmRhIEpvcmRhbg\command.exe (file missing)

I didn't see it in the HJT search results... is it possible that I missed it? I thought I checked it carefully, and even went back over it, but it is a possibility.

Oh, and since I'm here, whenever I start my computer my wireless card works for a second (it picks up a signal and all appears to be good), but then it shuts itse'f down and I get this message:

"ZeroCfgSvc MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sporry for the inconvienence."

It's rather obnoxious, because after that message appears it reactiviates itself and works fine until I shut down and restart my computer. Is there anyway to fix this? I've looked around, but nothing seems to help.

Hi Manda, your HJT log looks fine, but I see you are running MSConfig in Selective Startup mode. Nothing turned off I should know about is there?

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
