PIPAS.A strikes again...

Hi,

I got infected with PIPAS.A and Spybot can't seem to be able to remove it. Ran Spybot in Safe Mode as instructed but PIPAS.A keeps coming back. Here are my HJ log file and Panda Activescan report.

Hello and welcome to the forum:) This is called a Wareout infection and you are hacked by lowlifes in the Ukraine. I will stay offline as much as possible until we kick them out of your computer.

Thanks to LonnyRJones, Swandog46, AutoDad and anyone else who helped with this fix.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

(Hold those logs until we finish)

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)


Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Corrected TCP/IP properties and flushed DNS cache.
Ran Hijackthis "Do system scan only" and checked the lines I had; I didn't see lines 01, 03, & 04. Ran "Fix Checked".
Enabled "Show hidden files & folderes" and flushed files in Preftech; didn't have a Kill & Klean folder under Program files.
Ran CCleaner with no error messages; didn't get asked to backup anything.

How did your get HJT here:confused: C:\Temp\HijackThis.exe It is not safe to run it from a TEMP folder, please return it to where you had it: C:\AntiSpyWare\HijackThis.exe
HJT is a very important tool and it uses no resources until you need it. Here is some information about things it will do for you: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial42.html

Good job with the fix:bigthumb: you have a clean HJT log and the folks from the Ukraine have been sent packing.

Ran CCleaner with no error messages; didn't get asked to backup anything.If you did not get asked, then you did not run the registry cleaner (Issues) take another look if you want a clean registry. Once you scan and the list of proposed bad stuff shows up, when you try to remove it you will get the prompt to make a backup at that point.

System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:

Hello, Our resident expert and creator of the Fixwareout spotted that the fix accidently removed an item you need:

Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host Version 5.6
Random Runs removed from HKLM
"Promon.exe" <<< http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/promon.exe-4226.html

He created a reg file to put back the item, please follow these directions:

Launch Notepad (not wordpad), and copy and paste the contents of the code box below into a new text file.
Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: All files (*.*) and save it on your Desktop.
