View Full Version : virtumonde.dll, virtumonde.sci, virtumonde.atr, virtumonde.sdn
Please help. My computer has been slow and acting a little funny. Sometimes it opens internet explorer several times without me clicking on it. Today it started opening Outlook without me doing anything to initiate this.
I scanned it about a month ago and Virtumonde.dll showed up, but it wouldn't let me remove it. When I scan it now, nothing shows up, but I think I may have several Virtumonde viruses on my pc.
Please help. Thanks.

While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.
If no reply from you in 4 days or so than the thread is archived.
Please download Rooter Rootkit Detector (http://eric.71.mespages.googlepages.com/Rooter.exe) to your Desktop
Doubleclick it to start the tool.
A Notepad file containing the report will open, also found at %systemdrive% (usually C:\Rooter.txt.
Post the report for me to see.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)
Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

So far I am not looking at anything bad.
Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and click on RESET INTERNET EXPLORER SETTINGS ......RESET... Let it do its thing, takes a few seconds, then ok your way out. Close IE and then reopen it and see if that helped.
Please download ATF Cleaner (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1) by Atribune to your desktop.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up
Please note: If you use online banking or are registered online with any other organizations, ensure you have memorized password and other personal information as removing cookies will temporarily disable the auto-login facility.

Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
Notepad will open with the results, click no to the Optional_Scan
Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

I ran DDS and it worked fine. I wasn't sure by your note on the bottom if you meant that I needed to disable all A/V only if the scan didn't work, but I assumed that is what you meant. The scan worked so I didn't disable the antivirus or follow the instructions under "note." I hope I did this right :) If not let me know and I will do it again.

It seems like my computer runs slow. Programs take a while to start up sometimes, and seem to freeze often. Even normal programs like word and media player do this. Do you have any tips on what I can do to improve this?

I followed your instructions and so far it looks like I don't have any viruses. I did the ESET scan and it said that I didn't have any infected files. I thought it would pull up a logfile after the scan was completed, but it didn't. I don't know exactly how to do this. I tried searching my computer for C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
and nothing came up. I am running another ESET scan right now to see if I can pull up a logfile this time. If you still would like to look at this logfile, and could tell me the steps on how to do this, I'd really appreciate it.
My computer has been running fine while on IE. It loads things quickly on the internet. I think your tips on cleaning up things on the internet really helped. It seems to freeze up fairly often when I am not on the internet. For example, while running media player, and word. Sometimes when I am typing it is slow and it takes it a while to catch up with what I am typing. I don't remember it being this slow when I first got it (about 2yrs ago).
Let me know if you have any other tips/ideas.

How much memory is installed on this computer ?
Right click on Computer and go to Properties and it will tell you the amount of ram installed.
Open Hijackthis
Go to Misc Tools> Open Uninstall Manager.
Click on Save List.
The list will open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the List into this thread
My Computer has 1.00GB of RAM.
I tried to do what you told me with Hijack This. After I would click on save, it would save it and then open up the notepad, but it would say "cannot find C:/programfiles\trendmicro\hijackthis\uninstall_list.txt " and it would ask me if I wanted to create a new file. I could click yes, no, or cancel, no matter which one of these I clicked it wouldn't come up with anything in the notepad. The notepad would just be blank. Then if I tried to find the uninstall_list.txt there was nothing listed under that name.
Let me know what you think I should do.
I will be going out of town tomorrow (monday) and will be returning wednesday. I won't have internet access so I won't be able to respond until Thursday. I hope this is okay.

So I guess this means that I have no virus. That is great news. I just wish my computer weren't slow and wouldn't freeze as much. It seems to start up slow a lot of times. Should I just accept this as normal for this computer, or is there something that I can do to help it not be so slow?

Keep in mind if you install some of these programs. Only ONE Anti Virus and only ONE Firewall is recommended, more is overkill and can cause you problems. You can install all the Spyware programs I have listed without any problems. If you install Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard, they will conflict with the TeaTimer in Spybot , you can still install Spybot Search and Destroy but do not enable the TeaTimer .

Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis. If you install Spyware Blaster ( Recommended ) then do not enable the TeaTimer in Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed. No scan to run, just update about once a week and enable all protection.

IE-Spyad places over 6000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
Firefox 3 (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
