I ran spybot on a system the other day and it couldn't remove all the spybots and malware because some of them were running and wanted to reboot and run spybot at the startup. After it rebooted it got to the welcome/login screen , went past that and showed the desktop wallpaper and then went back to the welcome screen and sat there. If you click to login again it did the same startup of showing the desktop wallpaper and then back to the welcome screen. Was this something that was caused by Spybot wanting to run at the startup or do you think it's something entirely different

Hello,

Did you also try to start your pc in safe mode (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm)?
Do you have the Windows XP installation disk or a recovery disk for your Windows system?

I am having the same problem. I just downloaded SpyBot and ran a scan. Now when I reboot it asks me to login then it logs me off. I tried safe mode and had the same results. I don't think I have Windows xp disk.

When I reboot in safe mode, it asks me if I want to go to XP or recovery console. Might this be the only solution?

Have I lost everything?

Bud

Hello,

I would recommend to perform a Repair Installation (http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm).

I managed to get my PC up and running, but my desktop image is still hijacked. When I got the spyware/virus, my desktop image was changed to just a red screen. I've gone to the control panel to attempt to change it but I cannot. It is stuck on "warning.html". My Sophos software has quarantined the file. But it will not go away. I can manually delete it, but when I reboot it reappears. I have re-scanned with spybot and it picks up two files that seem to be unrelated. One is wildtangent and the other was a cookie. Any advice on how to get rid of this? Am I infected with something dangerous?
