while trying to remove old programs in the Add or Remove programs tool, I came across an unknown program called "advertismen" when I tried to remove it the computer just restarted. I looked it up on google and read that it was some sort of advertising tool, does anybody know how to get rid of it?

it seems every 10 seconds I'm either getting pop ups, antivirus software "removing" viruses and limewire complaining about being deleted.

OK Mark, let's us get off to a good start with this repair. Understand that I posted instructions to you on 2006-07-02, 13:46. A week later you show up in what seems to be a big hurry. This does not work like that. I am the person who has to deal with your problems (that is if I wish to continue to do so, I am a volunteer so I have choices). Understand I will do my very best to rid you of your problems, I will even help you get rid of Limewire, but we will do it according to plans that I set up and execute.
I am taking a look at the information you sent now, do you understand what tashi was saying about using the proper proceedure so you stay in the original topic? If so and you wish me to continue with this repair, please post to this topic briefly so I will know you understand and wish me to use my valuable time to help you with your problems.

I am posting the first instructions needed to clean up what is a nasty infection. If you still wish to continue, follow these instructions.
You have several infections, I need to make you aware that you should keep this computer offline as much as possible, these infections, especially Alcan will attract other junk. You have a Look2me infection that must be fixed first.
Winlogon Notify MS-DOS Emulation, Nls, OemStartMenuData, OfficeUpdate,
OptimalLayout, policies, Reinstall, Reliability X random named dll in the System32 folder Variant of Adware.Look2Me
Follow these directions carefully.
Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix
Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe (http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=7) to your desktop.
Close all windows before continuing.
Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
Your computer will then shutdown.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.
If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
